Contains a sample of The Isley Brother’s 1971 song “Ohio Machine Gun." Stic.Man of Dead Prez stated about this single: “Soon as I heard how J had reimagined and freaked that classic Isley Brother’s ‘Ohio’ sample it just invoked that soldier spirit in me, I felt the calisthenic cadence of the drums and I wrote my verse inspired by the urgency of what it means to be on the frontlines for what you believe living and fighting with purpose. It’s a battle song for all the long overdue uprisings going on in today’s world.”
From Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs, and found on his new album Bandana

A new album from DJ Shadow is coming (release date forthcoming), and this single from it arrived yesterday! He said about this track: "It’s been awhile since my last album The Mountain Will Fall, and the corresponding tour…and since the tour ended, I’ve been mostly silent. This is because I’ve been focused and working on a ton of music. I usually try to avoid hyperbole, and I’m not super-comfortable hyping up my own stuff, but things are about to get pretty exciting. My heroes De La Soul were kind enough to join me on the debut single, “Rocket Fuel,” and the collab encapsulates so much of what I love about hip-hop…energy, beats, and fun."

The third album from NYC's DIIV is set to release on October 4th! In a statement about this single, vocalist Zachary Cole Smith said: "It’s an imaginary dialogue between two characters, which could either be myself or people I know. I spent six months in several different rehab facilities at the beginning of 2017. I was living with other addicts. Being a recovering addict myself, there are a lot of questions like, “Who are we? What is this disease?” Our last record was about recovery in general, but I truthfully didn’t buy in. I decided to live in my disease instead. “Skin Game” looks at where the pain comes from. I’m looking at the personal, physical, emotional, and broader political experiences feeding into the cycle of addiction for millions of us."

Issac Brock to A.V. Club about the more upbeat nature of this song compared to other Modest Mouse tunes: "It was a completely conscious thing. I was just kind of fed up with how bad s**t had been going, and how dark everything was, with bad news coming from everywhere... Then you've got the well-intentioned scientists telling us that everything is f**ked. I just want to feel good for a day."
"Life is still good. You are still here. Love exists. Take care of yourself and experience all this. Live who you are. There is no one else that can be you" - bit.ly
