Good morning Seattle, and welcome to the Thursday edition of The Morning Show. On this day in 1946, the dynamic Freddie Mercury of Queen was born in Stone Town, Zanzibar. He died on November 24th 1991, only about 24 hours after releasing a statement to the public that he had tested positive for HIV/AIDS. He was 45 years old.

On this day in 1989, local legends Soundgarden released their second album, 'Louder Than Love.' Released through A&M Records, it was the major label debut for the band. Their first album, 'Ultramega OK' arrived through SST Records in 1988.

Sylvan Esso's Nick Sanborn to the New York Times on how this song came together: "Once other pieces of the song came into focus we realized we could add contextual weight to the sound by running it through Amelia’s mom’s old Otari reel-to-reel tape machine, which she had recently given us. She used it in the ’70s to cut together these beautiful radio pieces for NPR on everything from mosquitoes to rhubarb. As Amelia pressed her hand against the spinning reels and the pitch fluttered everything felt perfect, two generations of women on the radio coming together through this one sound."

Musically, it’s dense and polyrhythmic. The string line weaves it all together for me. When writing a song with a lot of additive looping rhythmic parts, I think of Brian Eno."

New project from Cymbals Eat Guitars’ Joseph D’Agostino, with a full-length arriving at some point next year. About this song he's said, "My sister-in-law Robin was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in the summer of 2015. She is now NED (No Evidence of Disease!) and has been for more than three years. But whenever my wife Rachel goes in for her biannual examination and has imaging done, we are always pretty on-edge, to say the least. This song is about a bleak and scary week in January 2018 while we were waiting on a biopsy report following a suspicious-looking ultrasound. It features two of my heroes: Rachel on the high harmony and Charles Bissell of the Wrens on the low harmony."

This North Carolina rapper's new album 'Eve' pays homage to the women that have inspired and influenced her. According to Rapsody, this track is named after, "Ibtihaj Muhammad, because she's a fencer with a sword. It's just that literal. She's a Muslim-American fencer and she's the first one to perform in a hijab. The correlation is we're two very strong, confident, fearless women who, in our own sports, never compromise."
