In an interview with Mojo, singer/songwriter Waye Coyne revealed that during the recording of Yoshimi..., band member Steven Drozd was trying to kick a heroin addiction. When they took breaks from playing, Drozd would have a really tough time with his withdrawal. Listening to him cry, and with the death of his father in mind, Coyne wrote: "Do You Realize??". Wayne Coyne, commenting on "Do You Realize??" said, "Whenever I analyze the scientific realities of what it means to be living here on Earth – in this galaxy – spinning around the sun – flying through space – a terror shock seizes me!!! I'm reminded once again of how precarious our whole existence is...

A lot of people think that 'Shout' is just another song about primal scream theory, continuing the themes of the first album. It is actually more concerned with political protest. It came out in 1984 when a lot of people were still worried about the aftermath of The Cold War and it was basically an encouragement to protest. — Roland Orzabal

Good morning! Currently working full time and started my Masters in Sustainability Science at UMass Amherst last year – I turn 50 this year. This program aligned with other choices I was making in life at the perfect time. The people I’ve met (from professors who are younger than me, to my cohort – one guy is older than me by over 20 years! So I don’t ‘win’ the oldest person award) have all treated me as their equal. And I’m learning amazing skills that I can’t wait to take into the workforce and I try to integrate them into my everyday life. My one goal is to graduate with my Masters before my teenager graduates from high school. I’m currently on track to make it! We all make a difference at all phases of life, and I don’t take lightly that I’m able to make this shift at this point in my life. Congrats to nearly Dr. Amy and the family who helped her every step of the way! Best to you all! ~Heather PS: How about some ‘She Blinded Me With Science’ for all the ladies out there taking on the Scientific World by strom. Here we come! Heather

A note from Tony in Phoenix: "John you are KILLING it this AM. Desperately needed some big songs this am. I would love to request the Verve's Bittersweet Symphony and dedicate it to my girlfriend Elizabeth who has proven to me that you can find love again at 48 years of age." Love to you both from the morning show crew!

"Part of what made the record good is that we went to extremes to structure it and compose it and play it in this very detailed and drive-yourself-crazy fashion. I hadn’t listened to it in about 20 years or so, and I recently listened to it because we remastered it and I said, “Wow.” It held up really well, because it was just structured and built like a tank. It was indestructible, and that came from an enormous amount of time that we put in, an unhealthy amount of obsessive-compulsiveness." Bruce Springsteen in Rolling Stone, 2015.
