Blockhead is Tony Simon, a New York City hip hop record producer and DJ. Aside from his solo efforts released on the Ninja Tune label, he's also produced tracks for Aesop Rock - who he met at Boston University when they were both students. At that point, Simon quit rapping to focus on producing music. The Aussie trio is apparently Elton John-approved! Describing the album, the band says “In a time where a lot of division is growing, we want to be part of the conversation that unites people around certain ideals that are universal, like hope and love,” Joy says in a press release. “That’s so much a thread throughout this album: Even though things are tough, it’s worth believing in something good and in the idea that we can heal. And in some ways, I wanted the music to be beautiful and a respite from what’s going on.”
