Seattle-based trio, Deep Sea Diver has recently signed with Sub Pop Records!
Of this new single, Jessica Dobson shares, "It is my nod to the simplicity of my favorite Tom Petty songs and to my love for Wim Wenders’ film Paris, Texas. The feeling of standing in the lonesome desert, embracing every particle of yourself, even the ones that are hard to look at, and fighting for your spirit to move through this world without entanglement. It is about being present and embracing the future while wholeheartedly letting go of any amount of control that I think I have in this life. ‘Billboard Heart’ is both a longing for something that may not exist and a place where I can be free." tinyurl.com

Robert Smith has revealed, "It’s very much on the darker side of the spectrum. I lost my mother and my father and my brother recently, and obviously it had an effect on me. It’s not relentlessly doom and gloom. It has soundscapes on it, like 'Disintegration,' I suppose. I was trying to create a big palette, a big wash of sound."
Smith adds, "The working title was 'Live From the Moon,' because I was enthralled by the 50th anniversary of the Apollo landing in the summer. We had a big moon hanging in the studio and lunar-related stuff lying around. I’ve always been a stargazer.
"Before I used to write about stuff that I thought I understood. Now I know I understand it. The lyrics I’ve been writing for this album, for me personally, are more true. They’re more honest. That’s probably why the album itself is a little bit more doom and gloom. I feel I want to do something that expresses the darker side of what I’ve experienced over the last few years – but in a way that will engage people." tinyurl.com

Kassie Krut is a new project featuring Kasra Kurt and Eve Alpert of the late, great DIY sonic adventurers Palm, as well as Matt Anderegg (Mothers, Body Meat).
Of this track, the band share, "'Reckless' is an exercise in restraint. We challenged ourselves to write a song with one bass note, one drum beat and just a couple simple chords.
"Sometimes we experience self-doubt so it was fun to create a tougher version of ourselves – someone who’s fast and mean – as well as playing w the misconception that Kassie is an individual and not a band. Also our project name is a little strange so we took the opportunity to spell it out for the listener." tinyurl.com

"Imperial Teen got started in 1992 when Lynn Perko and Roddy Bottum decided to start a band.
The band was made whole when local musicians Will Schwartz and Jone Stebbins joined; the band has stayed together since then....Bottum and Schwartz are also both gay males who’ve never been shy about speaking about their sexuality. Many of Imperial Teen’s songs have lyrics, sung by Bottum and Schwartz, about wearing lipstick and other typically feminine acts, some serious, and some silly. ": peraltacitizen.com

It was actually written before the pandemic and was first performed by New York City’s Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Marching Band in downtown Manhattan on August 12, 2021.
The video for this single from their 2021 album "Sympathy for Life" is by photographer Daniel Arnold. It captures "the concrete chaos of NYC—a woman picking watermelon up off the bodega floor, a rat, people dancing in Washington Square Park, people eating pizza in a cab, fashion, another rat, some seemingly drunk-ass folks, a Michael Myers mask on a construction vehicle, a garbage trucks crush a washer-dryer, lots of dancing…you know, NYC stuff."

Pixies are playing tonight @ Bowery Ballroom in NYC!
Pixes drummer David Lovering says that this is his favorite song on the 'Doolittle' album to play. "It's full of angst, kind of punky," he said. "Even though it's in a slightly odd time, it's quick and moving, so I get to go all out on it."
Shoegazing East Coast alt-rockers Kestrels are returning with a new album. 'Better Wonder' is out February 14 through Darla Records.
"Lilys" features backing vocals from Alex Edkins (of METZ and Weird Nightmare). Appropriately enough, the title is a nod to '90s shoegazers Lilys. Peck said, "The song introduces the themes of the album: why you're awake in the middle of the night, the uncanny effects of self-imposed isolation, and the implied hope of tomorrow"

"Only Shallow" features a unique guitar technique called “glide guitar,” created by Kevin Shields. This technique involves using two amplifiers facing each other with their tremolo settings at different rates, and a microphone placed between them. Shields then recorded this setup, reversed it, and played it back into a sampler to create the song’s distinctive sound.
This song released on this day in 1982!
Most of the effects and the bass line were made with a Moog synthesizer. At the time, this was no easy task. Said Dolby: "When I started out writing songs, synthesizers were still quite a rarified luxury. They were quite hard to get hands on and quite hard to operate. And when you did, there was still quite a lot of resistance in the mainstream to music made electronically. And so that was a natural place for me to be, because I wanted to be challenged and stimulated like that.
But over the years, the whole realm of our choices become more democratized, shall we say, to the extent that on your iPhone today for a few bucks you can probably have more powerful synthesizers and samplers than I had in my entire studio back in the early '80s."

Bowie made an appearance on Soul Train singing (actually, lip synching) "Golden Years" and "Fame" on November 4, 1975. Few white performers had appeared on the show, but host Don Cornelius gave him a warm welcome, introducing him as "one of the world’s most popular and important music personalities."
For Bowie, Soul Train was a big deal because he grew up listening to many of the American R&B artists who appeared on the show. He was nervous, and reportedly got a little drunk beforehand to take the edge off; footage does appear to show him stumbling over his lyrics.
