In 1992, Chris Cornell released his first solo EP "Poncier" and contributed the song "Seasons" to the "Singles" soundtrack. Cornell’s moving, understated solo contribution to the Singles soundtrack grew out of a piece of fiction: a solo cassette made by Matt Dillon’s Cliff Poncier after parting with his band, Citizen Dick. Cornell took it upon himself to actually write songs for the tape, one of which was this reflective folk ballad. “Holy s***, this is Chris Cornell, as Cliff Poncier, recording all of these songs, with lyrics, and total creative vision, and he has recorded the entire fake, solo cassette,” director Cameron Crowe recalled of first hearing the EP that would come to be known simply as Poncier. www.rollingstone.com

Temple of the Dog is the only album by the American rock band Temple of the Dog, released on April 16, 1991. It is a tribute to Andrew Wood, the former lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone, who died on March 19, 1990, of a heroin overdose. Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, who had been Mother Love Bone vocalist Andrew Wood's roommate, approached former Mother Love Bone members Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament about working on material he had written when he was on tour with Soundgarden in Europe. The line-up eventually included Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron and newcomers Mike McCready (lead guitar) and Eddie Vedder (background vocals).

On this day 33 years ago in 1991, Pearl Jam released the amazing Ten. == Eddie Vedder explained in the Pearl Jam Twenty book that this song is about first relationships. "The song is about letting go," said Vedder. "It's very rare for a relationship to withstand the Earth's gravitational pull and where it's going to take people and how they're going to grow. I've heard it said that you can't really have a true love unless it was a love unrequited. It's a harsh one, because then your truest one is the one you can't have forever."

Mother Love Bone was a rock band which formed in Seattle, Washington, United States in 1988. The band consisted of Andrew Wood (vocals, keyboards), Bruce Fairweather (guitar), Stone Gossard (guitar), Jeff Ament (bass) and Greg Gilmore (drums). The band released only one full length album, “Apple” (1990). The band disbanded in 1990 after Wood died in a coma caused by a heroin overdose. Ament and Gossard later formed Temple of the Dog and Pearl Jam.

Of the single 777, dogworld share “Starting out as a demo made by Jesse, ‘777’ quickly evolved from a chord progression into a full song – merging rap-like spoken word verses with shimmering vocal harmony choruses." dogworldband.bandcamp.com -- Did you know that Dogs devote a lot of brain power to interpreting smells, while humans tend to spend more time interpreting visual data. Dogs also tend to think about the present moment or what's going to happen next, rather than reflecting on the past or contemplating the future.

Sean in Ketchum, Idaho First day of school yesterday. My two amazing girls are in 10th and 7th grades. My 10th grader gets her license this week. As we pulled into school your "John in the morning" theme song came on and we both looked at each other and teared up. We have been listening to your morning show for 10 years. Usually I am singing. And she is rolling her eyes. We both realized that this is our last couple days of our silly morning drives listening to - M83, Sinead, B52's, Prince, etc. Basically I want to thank all of you for 10 amazing years of making music matter to me and my girls!!!!!

Noah Lennox, aka Panda Bear, wrote this song about his wife and daughter. He said, "I'm not big on possessions but, for some reason, being the owner of a space, a safe house for my wife and my daughter, has become the most important thing for me, for better or worse." He multitracked his voice into a call and response choir for this number. -- Learn how Animal Collective used a JUNO-60 arpeggiator to make this great song: articles.roland.com anmlcollectve.bandcamp.com

Cave, in a press statement, had this to say about his new song: “The sheer exuberance of a song like ‘Frogs.’ It just puts a big f**king smile on my face.” Us, too, Nick Cave and your bad seeds. Us, too. This is the second single taken from new Nick Cave album, ‘Wild God’, due August 30th.

Mark from Bar-None Records sent us this note earlier this week.. "In 1996 Lloyd Cole produced 2 songs for Ivy. "I've Got A Feeling" went on Apartment Life and this song (“All I Ever Wanted”) was shelved and completely forgotten. (We just found it (on) old 2" tapes.) Digital single coming out Sept. 4 and then it will be a bonus track on Long Distance vinyl coming out in Nov." This is what Ivy's Andy Chase said about this song, "Dominique and I to searched through the Ivy archives for any unreleased Apartment Life-era songs we might be able to use as bonus tracks. We put on one of the 2” 24 track reel-to-reel tapes we unearthed that had the title “Stupid Cat” scrawled across the outside of the box. This song started playing. It was so familiar to Dominique and I that we Shazam’d it, to see what it was called and which album of ours it was on. But when Shazam came up high and dry, we started remembering more and more of this song’s foggy, unresolved history. Back in 1997 the great Lloyd Cole had co-produced a few songs for what would be Apartment Life. (F)or reasons lost on us today, we shelved ...this one - never even doing a rough mix of it. So the master tape sat in our storage locker for the next 24 years, fully forgotten from our memories. After its reemergence, I finally was able to do a proper mix of it in my studio in 2024. And yes, Lloyd is even playing some guitars on this song!"

The Heads were formed by the members of Talking Heads after their unsuccessful attempts to convince lead singer and lyricist David Byrne to return to work with the band. The three remaining members decided to record new material as the Heads and collaborate with various artists who would primarily provide the lyrics and vocals. The backing tracks for No Talking, Just Head, including that which became "Damage I've Done", were recorded in November 1994. Once completed, the band began contacting other artists they wanted to collaborate with, including Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde fame. Speaking to Billboard in 1996, drummer Chris Frantz said, "We had never met her before. We just admired her work. I went to see her show in a club, and I was just amazed at the power she has."
