"Walk On By" is a song composed by Burt Bacharach, with lyrics by Hal David, for singer Dionne Warwick in 1963. Isaac Hayes recorded the song in 1969, and reached number 30 on the Hot 100 chart and number 13 in the R&B charts with his version. bit.ly Hayes' version was originally 12 minutes long, and reduced to 5 minutes for airplay. It has been sampled in 1992 by Compton's Most Wanted in "Hood Took Me Under," in 1994 by The Notorious B.I.G. in "Warning," in 1995 by 2Pac in "Me Against The World," in 1999 by MF DOOM in "Dead Bent," in 2000 by Wu-Tang Clan in "I Can't Go to Sleep," in 1996 by Hooverphonic in "2 Wicky," and in Beyoncé's 2016 song "6 Inch."
"2Wicky" is based on a loop from Isaac Hayes‘ cover of the Burt Bacharach and Hal David penned “Walk On By,” and also contains a sample from "Le Voile d'Orphée" performed by Pierre Henry. See the official video for the trip-hop classic, "2Wicky": www.youtube.com

The Prince-inspired “Worthy” was written and produced by Mark Ronson protégé MNDR. “Working with the legendary Mavis Staples seems like a dream,” MNDR shared. “Listening to her soulful voice, spending time in her grace, and watching her artistry in the studio as the trailblazing icon of music and culture was an experience too profound to put into words and one that I will never forget.”
Whilst Bowie's backing band worked at the instrumentation for Low, the "Thin White Duke" sat in the control room listening. Guitarist Ricky Gardener recalled to Mojo magazine "he just went into the studio and sang it straight off, words and all. He listened to the playback once, adjusted something in his head and did it again. And that was that." The song was recorded at Château d'Hérouville in Hérouville, France, in September 1976, and completed at Hansa Studios in West Berlin in October and November -- and features backing vocals from Brian Eno and Mary Hopkin.

This track was released on this day in 1984 as a B-Side. Johnny Marr said he wanted the intro to the Smiths’ "How Soon Is Now?" to be as potent and recognizable as "Layla." But instead of writing a catchy melody or bombastic riff, he took an entirely different approach by crafting a hypnotic, pulsating groove by running his rhythm electric guitar track through four amps to generate a lush, complex stereo tremolo effect. -- Here's how he achieved that unique sound: www.guitarworld.com
Recognize that guitar riff? This song by Soho features a sample of The Smiths' "How Soon Is Now?" Johnny Marr received 25% of the song's royalties. -- Soho were a collective made up of core members guitarist/songwriter Tim London (real name Timothy Brinkhurst) and twin sisters, Jacqueline and Pauline Cuff. In 1987 the Cuff sisters resigned their jobs as psychiatric nurses to commit themselves fully to singing in the band.

This cover was for the soundtrack of the 2014 hiking drama Wild. "Our parents played a lot of R.E.M. growing-up - 'Losing My Religion' was probably one of the first of the group's songs we heard," Klara Söderberg told Billboard magazine. "'But 'Walk Unafraid' and the lyrics 'I'll trip, fall, pick myself up and walk unafraid' resonate with Cheryl's story in the film." Don't miss First Aid Kit's Live on KEXP performance here: youtu.be
