Missed connections:
Were you that incredibly handsome fellowdancing to A Flock of Seagulls classic "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" yesterday at the super market? That was me secretly swaying in the produce section when I felt a connection.

"If Los Bitchos’ electrifying 2022 debut album Let the Festivities Begin! was the rowdy build up to the big night out, then Talkie Talkie is the Technicolor explosion of the dancefloor. From dynamic guitar riffs to infectious beats, it represents a bold step forward in their unique blend of global rock'n'roll influences. It was produced by the band with Oli Barton-Wood (Wet Leg, Nilüfer Yanya) and engineer Giles Barrett."

My wife and I (longtime amplifiers) saw Ibibio Sound Machine in Fort Collins, CO last night. I learned of them through KEXP. It was an amazing show. One of the best in years. Thank you, KEXP! If you could, play All That You Want? Keep the dancing going!

RIP John Mayall, the British blues musician whose influential band the Bluesbreakers was a training ground for Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Mick Fleetwood and many other superstars, has died. He was 90.
He is credited with helping develop the English take on urban, Chicago-style rhythm and blues that played an important role in the blues revival of the late 1960s. At various times, the Bluesbreakers included Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, later of Cream; Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac; Mick Taylor, who played five years with the Rolling Stones; and many, many more.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the musical influence category in 2024.
Mayall was born on Nov. 29, 1933 in Macclesfield, near Manchester in central England.
Mayall once said, “The only reason I was born in Macclesfield was because my father was a drinker, and that’s where his favorite pub was.” His father also played guitar and banjo, and his records of boogie-woogie piano captivated his teenage son.
John Mayall's Play the Harp and U2's Desire are built on the foundation of The Bo Diddley beat. A syncopated musical rhythm that is widely used in rock and roll and pop music. The beat is named after rhythm and blues musician Bo Diddley, who introduced and popularized the beat with his self-titled debut single, "Bo Diddley", in 1955. The beat is essentially the Afro-Cuban clave rhythm or based on the clave.
The original.
Yep, The Bo Diddley beat.
The Bo Diddley beat, kiss-a-sized.

"New York Groove" was written by an Englishman: Russ Ballard, a songwriter who until 1974 was the guitarist in Argent. It was originally released by the English band Hello in 1975.

In 1978, each member of KISS released a solo album, and this was the highest-charting single of any of the songs released from those albums. Here's the story of the song and how it became a surprise hit for Frehley: www.loudersound.com
Has this ever sounded better? Possibly but we're not sure.
Clearly Bo Diddley changed music for the better.
this one, too. Or as the late great NFL insider John Clayton would say, "and, also, too."
A rock variation of the Bo Diddley beat.

The British singer-songwriter is gearing up to release her most ambitious project to date — an 18-track “double album” titled “Memoir of a Sparklemuffin.” Due Sept. 13, Waterhouse’s savory sophomore album stretches from dreamy indie rock to gloomy balladry and cinematic folk-pop with a little Lana Del Rey noir." --- Michael Rietmulder in The Seattle Times

Good morning. I would like to request a song for my daughters mother, first wife Carrie, who is going through surgery this morning for ovarian cancer. She will be listening to Kexp during preop. She loves jungle.
She's a wonderful mother and a wonderful person and we just needed to wish her all the best and strength to get through this. We love her.

Depeche Mode cover of David Bowie's Heroes.
Heroes holds significance in the early history and formation of the band. Before adopting the name Depeche Mode, the ensemble was known as Composition Of Sound, consisting of Vince Clarke, Andrew Fletcher, and Martin Gore. It was during a rehearsal that they heard singer Dave Gahan performing 'Heroes', leaving them impressed with his rendition and leading to his invitation to join the group.
Yannis is best known as the frontman from the UK band Foals and this song features the late great drummer Tony Allen. The band also features members of Air, Gorillaz, and Joan As Police Woman.
Allen, the pioneering Afrobeat musician, who played with both Fela Kuti and The Good, The Bad & The Queen, died in 2020 at the age of 79

Sequins, velvet, a nod to Prince Rodgers Nelson
A red carpet built for heels and dresses
Paved by the Billy Porters and the Jonathan Van Nesses
And I love it, my platforms keep me above it

Jade Hairpins—the duo of Jonah Falco and Mike Haliechuk (F*cked Up)—announce their sophmore album, Get Me the Good Stuff, arriving September 13 on Merge Records.
Jonah Falco says this song "...is about the double dead end of not trusting yourself enough to make good decisions, musically wrapped in a Mondays-meets-Bolan (T-Rex), funky filo pastry."

"Mama Told Me Not to Come", also written as "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)", is a song by American singer-songwriter Randy Newman written for Eric Burdon's first solo album in 1966. Three Dog Night's 1970 cover topped the US pop singles chart. Tom Jones and Stereophonics' version also reached No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart in 2000.
One time, when John was out, we got a complaint for playing this Melanas song "too much" on KEXP. FWIW, Top-40 stations play songs about 30-40 songs in a given week. That same week of the complaint, KEXP had played it ... wait for it ...

As a Bay Area resident (Pleasanton) I recently discovered you, by way of a friend who frequently works in Seattle. I love being constantly surprised by your mix, and returning to regularly discovering new artists. Yesterday I was on a work call with and a coworker said "hey is that a KEXP hat you're rocking'? Thanks for representing Seattle!" He didn't even realize you're now in the SF Bay.
Romeo Void seems like it could.
Keep it up!
