Martin Gore was born on this day in 1961. Songs of Faith and Devotion was recorded over eight months in a rented villa in Madrid during 1992, as well as later sessions in Hamburg and London. Following his work on U2's seventh studio album, producer Flood suggested the idea of building their own studio in a rented house where the band would live and work, the same process having yielded huge successes for U2. A studio was set up in the basement of the villa, with two drum kits using different spaces to achieve different sounds. The band had become aware of getting caught in easy routines in the studio leading to boredom and thus wanted to change as many aspects to their approach to the recording as possible.

Rob Dickinson, singer/songwriter/guitarist of Catherine Wheel was born on this day in 1965. This was the band's last album to feature original bassist Dave Hawes. Dave Hawes said of the album "Adam And Eve is my personal favourite album. I think we were at our musical peak and Rob and Brian were writing amazing tunes. Add in Bob Ezrin as an executive producer and hey, presto! He produced Lou Reed's Berlin album (a top 5 album of mine), and I think he added some of that magic dust to A and E."
"Favourite" is a song which frontman Grian Chatten describes as having "this never-ending sound to it, a continuous cycle from euphoria to sadness, two worlds spinning forever." The band also shared an accompanying music video, featuring home footage of all five members stitched together. Documenting a recent trip to Madrid, where guitarist Carlos O’Connel was born and grew up, bassist Conor Deegan said of the video: "This video is a reminiscing of the past; of each other’s childhoods we didn’t know. To see people we know on an intimate level as adults in the tender ages of childhood, we explore where we came from, and who on some level, still are." He added he wanted the video "to serve as a way of honouring our friendships, and moving from that, the relationships we hold dear. Our mothers, fathers, siblings, aunties and uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers. Those who we still have, and those we have sadly lost. "We haven’t lost that connection to each other, and are not afraid to come of age again, holding on to romance in a sometimes trying world." tinyurl.com

Hey John - odd request. My daughter, Helena, turns 5 today, and has grown up listening to your show. Nearly every morning, since 2019, she's been introduced to the most amazing music and positive energy you bring.
She woke up this morning asking to hear The Hives "Countdown to Shutdown." I know the vibe is a bit different, but do you think this could make its way onto the morning show as a dedication to her?
Thanks! Love from Portland!

Regarding ‘Silver’ in a press release, frontman Jacob Slater said: “The song is about that ugly side of yourself that you try to keep a secret, but you know it’s there because it makes your skin crawl sometimes. It gets you places but fucks you up in the process. Everyone has elements of their makeup that they’d rather not admit to or keep locked away and never look at. That’s what ‘Silver’ is about. Kind of.”
Hi John!
Just wanted to share a celebration (squueeeee!) After years of dreaming I finally started working last year toward my childhood dream of ballet en pointe. Yes, this 46-year-old, fat, disabled person finally got my first pointe shoes and I'm making it happen. I am just thrilled.
Here's to showing all the nay-sayers they're wrong!
Anyway, could you play "This is the day" for the dream fiiiiiinally happening?
In gratitude,
Julie

I've been hearing folks rave about recent Pretenders shows here on the east coast (philly), so I'd love to hear them this morning. But... Mr. DJ... if you have time to squeeze this in, my request is for you to please pick your favorite Pretenders song that fits the best with the rest of the set? I have a dozen songs I could suggest, but it's always great to hear where your mind goes.
Thanks!
Chris
