'High & Dry' was originally written when Thom Yorke was still studying at Exeter in the late 1980s. The song was performed as a very fast punk rock version at gigs by Headless Chicken, Yorke's band at Exeter. -- Around the time that Radiohead was recording Pablo Honey, Thom Yorke recorded a version on a 4-track machine using a rhythm sample by Soul II Soul as the basis.

The cover of this album is a reproduction of the painting "A Basket of Roses" by French artist Henri Fantin-Latour, which is part of the National Gallery's permanent collection in London. Peter Saville, the cover's designer, had originally planned to use a Renaissance portrait of a dark prince to tie in with the Machiavellian theme of the title, but could not find a suitable portrait. At the gallery Saville picked up a postcard with Fantin-Latour's painting, and his girlfriend mockingly asked him if he was going to use it for the cover. Saville then realised it was a great idea. Saville suggested that the flowers "suggested the means by which power, corruption and lies infiltrate our lives. They're seductive."

Cold Cave recently released new single “Hourglass.” The duo’s latest track features both Wesley Eisold and Amy Lee singing their love story against a coming-of-age sound that recalls the late 80’s and early 90’s lossless heartstring pull of The Lightning Seeds, Republic-era New Order and The Head On The Door-era of The Cure. coldcave.bandcamp.com

From Pearl Jam's latest record. The album was recorded as a five piece in concentrated studio session rather than slowly through many session as was the case with their previous record. The result is a heavier album that the Eddie Vedder remarked was their best work yet.

Amyl and the Sniffers will play the Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco on August 9th. -- On their latest single, Amy Taylor said: “Lyrically it’s pretty self-explanatory. ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ makes me laugh, but it’s also in a way poking fun at the shock that people still feel at a little bit of skimpy clothing, and the bitchy high school way that the music community still is (yes I’m talking to you random 40 year old metalheads sitting around a table doing lines and bitching about a 28 year old chick in a band for wearing shorts and “selling out”) but it mainly makes me laugh. It’s unconscious and meant nothing at the time of writing it but now I think it’s a comedic way of rubbing the dog's nose in its own dog piss after it peed on your favorite rug or something.” Watch the video: www.youtube.com

Happy birthday to Keith Levene Debut song from Public Image Ltd. Following Johnny Lydon's departure from the Sex Pistols in January 1978, he sought a more experimental "anti-rock" project and formed PiL. That year PiL released their debut studio album First Issue (1978), creating an abrasive, bass-heavy sound that drew on dub, noise, progressive rock and disco. tinyurl.com

The song is the seventh track on the band's third album, Flood. It has become one of the band's most popular songs, despite never having been released as a single. Although it was released over a decade before the band began writing children's music, "Particle Man" is sometimes cited as a particularly youth-appropriate TMBG song, and a precursor to their first children's album, No!, which was not explicitly educational.
