At a live show in 1986, Jane’s Addiction front man Perry Farrell cryptically introduced “Summertime Rolls” as “This song’s about getting laid on a waterbed…no…it’s about laying in a park…no, it’s not…yes, it is.”

This was the only R.E.M. song where the lyrics were written before the music, inspiring some healthy competition between Mike Mills and Peter Buck. Buck recalls in the liner notes for In Time: "Being competitive bastards that we are, Mike and I started auditioning chord changes and tunes for Michael. The two tunes of mine that Michael rejected eventually became 'Drive' and 'Try Not To Breathe.' Mike had a piano instrumental that he played to Michael. He listened once, nodded his head to hear it again, and on the second pass he sang the lyrics. It was 'Nightswimming,' exactly like the record we would record a year later. I was standing in the corner dumbfounded." - www.songfacts.com

Morning, John. Chuck from Bremerton.
Seems like an Under the Milky Way type of morning.
Cheers!

"Moonlight Mile" came together during a loose session held at Jagger's Stargroves estate in the fall of 1970. Appropriately, recording didn't begin until after midnight, at which point Jagger says guitarist Keith Richards had already gone home, and bassist Bill Wyman wasn't present, leaving him to flesh out the arrangement with guitarist Mick Taylor and drummer Charlie Watts.
"What makes 'Moonlight Mile' special is that it’s a song and a recording at once," mused Jagger. "All these things — the strange plinking piano, the tom-tommy mallets on the drums, the different guitars — they all came together to produce a feeling of vulnerability and loneliness, you know what I mean? I think the three of us finished recording the basic track around 6AM. The sun was coming up."
Japandroids have just released their first song in seven years as the first salvo from their final album. It's called Fate & Alcohol and it comes out October 18 via ANTI-
“On our last record we wanted to broaden the definition of a Japandroids song,” vocalist/guitarist Brian King says, “and ...we were aiming for a more cinematic take on our signature sound. This time, we made certain that every song ripped in our jam space before [longtime producer] Jesse [Gander] ever heard it.”
it's deja vu all over again

Chicago is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Illinois and in the Midwestern United States. With a population of 2,746,388, as of the 2020 census, it is the third-most populous city in the United States after New York City and Los Angeles.
It is best known for the Chicago hot dog. yep.
A proper Chicago dog is a frankfurter in a poppy seed bun, topped with yellow mustard, neon-green sweet pickle relish, chopped white onion, tomato slices, a dill pickle spear, pickled sport peppers and celery salt.
Cave, in a press statement, had this to say about his new song: “The sheer exuberance of a song like ‘Frogs.’ It just puts a big f**king smile on my face.”
Us, too, Nick Cave and your bad seeds. Us, too.
On October 4, 2024, Seattle-based trio Naked Giants will release their highly anticipated third album, Shine Away via Devil Duck Records. Today, the band is excited to share the album's lead single, "Apartment 3."
Reflecting on the inspiration behind "Apartment 3," the band's vocalist/guitarist Grant Mullen shared, "This is one of the first songs we wrote for the album, shortly after finishing The Shadow in 2020. It captures that early-20s 'growing up' energy—searching for a new home, experiencing first-time living arrangements, and the influence of peak quarantine solitude."
Naked Giants - November 7 at The Crocodile.

The bedroom project of James Bookert (of Whiskey Shivers and Wild Childfame) who began writing and recording for San Gabriel behind the counter of the liquor store and currently resides between Portland and Austin.
The song is reportedly an ode to the close bond between Europe and America: "a relationship that's lasted across the centuries, through good and bad times, a "Love Song" between two continents." Its sound marked the beginning of a shift away from the band's early experimental phase towards a more accessible and commercial "pulsating electronic rock".
Released on this day 59 years ago. The songs that sample this gem are just off the hook...for example...
See below.

Hugely influential on the sound of hip-hop and development of new jack swing, the song was an early example of a diss track, this one focused at Kool Moe Dee's rival LL Cool J.

Don't you call this a regular jam
I'm gonna rock this land
I'm gonna take this itty-bitty world by storm
And I'm just getting warm
Just like Muhammad Ali, they called him Cassius
Watch me bash this beat like a skull
Don'tcha know I had beef wit'
Why do you riff with me, a maniac psycho
And when I pull out my jammy, get ready 'cause it might go
Blauh! How ya like me now?
The ripper will not allow
You to get wit' Mr. Smith don't riff
