Moby released "18" on this day in 2002. Moby said the song is relatively accurate, scientifically speaking. "Apart from two elements everything else on the periodic table of elements came from the furnace of a star somewhere. Just remember: there's not a single part of you that wasn't present in the first 1/2 second of the big bang. Technically, we're all 13,600,000,000 years old." 13,600,000,000 years old?

New York peeps! Catch Angélica Garcia at Elsewhere in Brooklyn Tuesday, July 9th. 'Gemelo' is the new album from songwriter and pop auteur Angélica Garcia. Its title is a reference to the twin self – the idea of a second, more intuitive self within. It’s a vibrant, prismatic hybrid-pop record that soundtracks a journey through the different stages and forms of grief. Angélica explores its inherent loneliness, beauty, and tension, eventually finding liberation. 'Gemelo' also expertly deconstructs facets of universal themes like religion, spirit, heritage, womanhood, and ancestral veneration. angelicagarcia.bandcamp.com

“Work Is A Four Letter-Word” is a cover of a Cilla Black's song. This cover was recorded during The Smith's last session together. Johnny Marr hated the song so much that it was one of the reasons he left the band. Marr recalled to Record Collector magazine in 1992: “‘Work Is A Four Letter Word’ I hated. That was the last straw, really. I didn’t form a group to perform Cilla Black songs. That was it, really. I made a decision that I was going to get away on holiday. The only place I could think of was L.A. L.A. was the only place I knew where there’d be sunshine, so off I went. I never saw Morrissey again.”

Happy Birthday to David Byrne who was born on this day in 1952. David Byrne, the most talkative of the Talking Heads, wrote "Wild Wild Life" for the 1986 movie 'True Stories,' which he starred in and directed. He recorded the songs for the film with the band, and that became their seventh album, 'True Stories.' Many of these songs were used in the movie with the actors replacing Byrne's vocals, but the "Wild Wild Life" film version is identical to the one on the album. bit.ly
