David J (born David John Haskins) is the English multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter (Bauhaus and Love and Rockets) who wrote the lyrics for several Bauhaus tunes, including their first single "Bela Lugosi's Dead."
While mainly the bassist in Love and Rockets, he also took over lead vocal duties on a few songs, the most notable of them being "No New Tale to Tell.
He was born on this day in 1957.
Hi team. Today marks a sad anniversary. I lost my mom one year ago today. Her last days of life were difficult. She went from living a happy, independent life in the beautiful New Mexico mountains, to being in a state of severe pain, frailty, and delirium in a shitty hospital, all in a matter of a few weeks.
My son and I were on our way to the hospital when she passed, so we didn't get to play her the playlist we'd been working on to cheer her up. Instead we played it for her in the hospital room when she was already gone. We hoped it might help send her on her journey with some love and comfort, and maybe soothe our ragged souls in that devastating moment.
Like many of us, Neil Diamond, Simon and Garfunkel, and Enya were among my mom’s favorites. If you could cue up some Song Sung Blue, Orinoco Flow, Homeward Bound or anything like that, I would be honored.
And either way, I want to say a huge THANK YOU to John and the team for being there for us listeners even when the being there is not easy. We on the other side of the radio don’t take you for granted for a moment. We love and appreciate you all so much.
My mom is Margaret, my son is Hollis, and BTW, he turns 12 tomorrow!

"ghost" is the newest single from this London based three-piece. Clari Freeman-Taylor (guitar/vocals) says of the track: “ghost is a song about light, and finding a fresh start - it's our most joyful to play together because of the ooweeoos and the howling and the big breezy key change. it's about the love in new friendships and the excitement of finding new wisdom.” It is a track that feels like a moment of clarity." tinyurl.com

Good Morning, John! We caught Silversun Pickups in Omaha last night. Great show as to be expected. My KEXP t-shirt was a conversation starter especially with members of the opening act, Rocket, a four piece out of SoCal. Maybe you could play one of their tracks?? Thanks. Dave in Nebraska.
Hey Friends,
Hello, and good morning! It’s my 57th birthday, and I’d like to request something from Bob Mould, Sugar, or Husker Du (whatever fits into the set).
Two years ago I moved away from my home in Chicago to help care for my aging mother here in Bloomington, IL.
It’s been a lot.
Discovering KEXP last year was a heroic dose of sanity and connection, and listening is now part of my daily life. Keep doing what you do, and I’ll help spread the word.
Best,
Jonathan

Good morning, Morning Show Crew! TGIW, huh? I hope you and yours are well. If you can fit it into the mix, I'd like to request "Future Boy" by Catherine Wheel. A favorite of mine. As always, please and thank you.
Always, always appreciated, and always a pleasure.

Good morning John. With today’s big star theme, I’d like to request “me in honey” or any other R.E.M. song that features Mike Mills on vocals. He was always a huge advocate for Big Star and turned me onto them. Thanks so much and have a great day. Driving from Wisconsin to Michigan and cranking out KEXP through the app. Ray in Milwaukee
