Coming to Seattle May 15th Lumen Field "For three days in December 1969, the Stones stopped into Muscle Shoals studios in Alabama and managed to lay down three songs, one of which was “Wild Horses.” The composition of this plaintive ballad was begun by Keith Richards, whose first child was born in August 1969, causing Keith regret about going out on the road and leaving the boy behind.... He then handed the song off to his songwriting partner-in-crime Mick Jagger to complete the verses. And that’s when the track took a turn away from Marlon, the name of Richards’ little boy, and perhaps veered toward Marianne, as in Faithfull, Jagger’s on-again, off-again lover of that era...." Tom Petty said of this song: "I just took a deep breath and it came out. The whole song. Stream of consciousness: words, music, chords. Finished it. I mean, I just played it into a tape recorder and I played the whole song and I never played it again. I actually only spent three and a half minutes on that whole song. So I’d come back for days playing that tape, thinking there must be something wrong here because this just came too easy. And then I realized that there’s probably nothing wrong at all."

See Stevie in the bay area MAY 24th at Bottle Rock Napa Valley in Napa, CA. Stevie Nicks says she wrote this song while contemplating going back to school or continuing on professionally with guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. Their album 'Buckingham Nicks' had been dropped by Polydor Records before they could release a follow up. She wrote the song while visiting Aspen, Colorado, sitting in someone's living room "looking out at the Rocky Mountains pondering the avalanche of everything that had come crashing down on us... at that moment, my life truly felt like a landslide in many ways".

Released on this day 5-years ago in the before times. == Norwegian singer Aurora co-wrote this song with The Chemical Brothers and is featured on vocals. The duo said, "Aurora really made this by coming up with these amazing images. Sonics-wise, there are a lot of ideas and a lot of movement. There are moments where it almost feels that whole thing has gone too far, the way it builds and then you’re back down. It's a rolling psychedelic journey, for want of a better word." - www.last.fm - www.thechemicalbrothers.com --- Aurora was live in the KEXP studio in 2018: www.youtube.com

Happy 30th bday to this ridiculously amazing album. --- "This is a song about a jerk. I hexed him, now he's losing his hair." That's how Hole frontwoman Courtney Love introduced "Violet" when Hole played it on Later... with Jools Holland in 1995. This is a pretty clear indication that the song is about Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, whom love dated in 1991 before taking up with Kurt Cobain. - www.songfacts.com

Good morning John and crü! Writing to you from Queen Anne, and wondering if you can help my boyfriend Ethan celebrate his 43rd birthday by playing some Miles Davis? He's loving his tshirt that I gave him from the drive, but we all know that the music is the real gift. Thank you so much for everything you do, I've been listening since 2002, when my family first moved to Seattle, and an amplifier since I went to college a few years later and realized what a treasure KEXP is. Thank you and have such a great morning and weekend! Ari on Queen Anne

Good morning. If possible, I would like to request a song for my long-time-listener-amplifier friend, Angie, who today will be doing one of the hardest things she's been through this lifetime. Bend, by Middle Kids, is her 2024 theme song and I think she needs to hear it today more than ever. Xoxo She's in Seattle and since I cannot be there by her side today, I just want to make sure she knows she's in my heart and she's not alone. Krista in Texas

These lyrics Photograph of us In the spotlight, on a hot night I was drifting in and out Reticent on the off chance I'm blunter than a bullseye Begging for peace of mind I get ahead of myself Bracing for a bombshell Your love written on a blank check Wear it around your neck I was at a loss But you come to me on a fault line Deep inside a goldmine Hovering like a moth I lose a bit of myself Laying out eggshells

Written by Shel Silverstein and made famous by Cash, the song might also have been inspired by the male attorney Sue K. Hicks of Madisonville, Tennessee, a friend of John Scopes who agreed to be a prosecutor in what was to become known as the "Scopes Monkey Trial".
