This song was inspired by an exhibit of the same name the band saw at the Chicago Peace Museum while on tour in 1983. The exhibit featured artwork from Japanese victims of the Hiroshima bombing. The Chicago Peace Museum also had a Martin Luther King exhibit, which would inspire U2's song "Pride (In The Name Of Love)." -- In the beginning of the song, from :04 to :07 seconds, you can hear Larry Mullen Jr. start to hit his drumsticks early. Immediately after, he mutters out "S-it." Then, at :22 seconds, he starts to drum at the correct time. The small glitch has never been removed from the album nor its inclusions on 'Best of' CDs.

Released on this day in 1995! Moby has described Everything Is Wrong as "a record that almost served as a lifeboat for the songs I cared the most about" noting that he attempted to cover as many musical styles as possible not "out of trying to be eclectic, but just because I was in love with all of these genres and I felt like this may be my only chance to make a record."

From Sigur Rós latest record. Front person Jónsi described the latest record saying "Trans and queer and gay rights have been trampled on so much recently. It's scary to see. Around the world also, it feels like we're going backwards. We try to stay out of politics, just to make the music as neutral as possible, but we were talking about the state of the world we live in now: climate change and doomscrolling." sigurros.com

Middle Kids' new album Faith Crisis Pt 1 was recorded in five weeks back in June of 2022 in Eastbourne, United Kingdom. During their sessions, the band experimented with synths and organs for the first time. Hannah Joy shared that unlike their previous albums, which were very intertwined with their daily lives, with "snippets written in sound checks, visiting a studio whilst on the road [and] recording vocals after doing the dishes at home", during the process of making Faith Crisis Pt 1, they sought separation from daily life and the going-ons of society by "carving out the space and world for making this record, which, yeah, was awesome – but absolutely fried the mainframes". Middle Kids are playing in Seattle at Neumos on June 18th! middlekids.bandcamp.com www.middlekidsmusic.com

Grant Lee Phillips told American Songwriter, the song was a last-minute addition to the band’s second album, 1994’s Mighty Joe Moon. "I began to introduce all the new material. And we had gotten through most of the recording process when a massive earthquake struck Los Angeles. This was the Northridge earthquake. And it was out of that that I wrote ‘Mockingbirds,’ when the record was almost basically done. I said, ‘Whoops, I got one more here that we might want to consider.’”

Bully's Alicia Bognanno said of this song "The song was originally recorded with a drum machine and electric guitar; it was also quite a bit faster. When I played the demo for JT Daly (producer), he had the idea of moving it to the piano. I remember saying out loud, “Can you believe I’m trusting anybody like this?” We both started laughing because starting off as someone who used to record, mix, and produce their own records to avoid the vulnerability that comes with working out creative ideas in the company of others, it was a huge step for me." Now from Beck him self! For "Novacane," the Dust Brothers wanted to capture the frenetic, rock star energy of the otherwise calm Beck. Simpson told MusicRadar: "It's interesting, when you become friends with Beck and you're working with him in the studio he's such a mild-mannered, super mellow, very gentle guy. But when he gets on stage he has these explosive qualities like Mick Jagger and punk rock, you know? On 'Novacane' we just tried to harness some of that energy and capture it on record. It's interesting, on a lot of other projects we'd want to push to go crazy to get really weird unexpected things on record, and a lot of artists just don't want to go that far. Other times other artists would have to rein us in and go, 'Yeah I like the way that sounds, but I don't know if it's right for the record.' With Beck it was like you couldn't throw something too crazy at him. He'd push us. He was like, 'What can we do to this song to make it more f--ked up?' and I feel like we achieved it on 'Novacane.'" bit.ly

This 1995 song sampled Silver Apples' 1968 "Program." -- The Folk Implosion was an American indie rock/lo-fi band founded in the early 1990s by Lou Barlow (after he had been sacked as bassist for Dinosaur Jr.) and John Davis. It was initially a side-project started by Barlow to explore different territory than that being canvassed with his primary band at the time, Sebadoh. The name is a play on the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.: peel.fandom.com

Speaking of oddly similar riffs... Nirvana features a similar guitar riff on their 1991 hit "Come As You Are" and Killing Joke considered legal action, but after Kurt Cobain died, they dispensed with any thoughts of a lawsuit. Happy Thursday - the sun is shining and you’re tuned into The Midday Show with Cheryl Waters. We’re glad that you’re here! -- Hana Vu hails from Los Angeles and has a new album, 'Romanticism', being released on May 3rd. She’s been making music since high school, with a full-length debut and several EPs behind her of glowy, brooding anthems of abstraction and emotion.
