World Party's Karl Wallinger died on March 10th, 2024, at the age of 66, according to a statement from his publicist. A cause of death has not been released, but Wallinger did suffer a brain aneurysm in 2001 that put a pause on his career for several years. Wallinger was closely associated with Sinéad O’Connor and arranged this song.

This Is the Sea is the last Waterboys album with contributions from Karl Wallinger, who left the group to form his own band, World Party. "Having Karl [Wallinger] in the studio", writes singer-songwriter Mike Scott, "was like having a one-man orchestra around. There might have been a This Is the Sea without him, but it wouldn't have been the same – or as good."
RIP Sinéad O’Connor. While working on solo material, Karl Wallinger also worked on Sinéad O'Connor's 1987 debut album The Lion and the Cobra.
LOCAL ARTIST BRITTANY DAVIS ON KEXP'S SOUND AND VISION
Seattle’s Brittany Davis has released her debut album, 'Image Issues,' which she calls an "audio movie." It’s a sonic journey that weaves in many musical genres and spoken word vignettes backed by soundscapes. Davis is blind and audio is a heightened sense for her. She also has synesthesia and hears music from smells.

Around the time of the release of this album, vocalist, Dan Whitford, said that the sound of In Ghost Colours is the closest the band has come to the sound they are after:
"The album is a lot more realised than the first one. I think all of us, when we think of the first one, we agree we sort of got half way there. But on the new one we got a lot closer to the sort of sounds we're after. There are some different aspects to it – more layered, more dynamic, as well as some more loud, dance-y sections to it. And with the guitar there were many-layered sections as well. It got the real highs and lows, the real floaty bits, which I think is sort of a secret to our sound, with a lot of segues so that it just sort of flows together. And I think it's a lot more, kind of... complete."

I'm home from the hospital after having prostate cancer surgery on Monday and I can't tell you how good it feels to hear your show. The surgery was successful and I'm cancer free...just really uncomfortable and sore and I have to deal with some things associated with the surgery for the next few months. But turning on KEXP today was like sunshine breaking through everything that's gone on the last few days.
If you have a chance could I request The Screaming Blue Messiah's "Wild Blue Yonder".

Devil's Backbone is an elevated, winding stretch of Ranch to Market Road 12 between San Marcos and Wimberley. It has long been the subject of ghost stories. Folklore about it appeared in a 1996 episode of NBC's Robert Stack series Unsolved Mysteries, featuring apparitional Spanish monks, Comanche and Lipan Apache tribes, Confederate soldiers on their horses, and a spirit of a wolf. It later reaired when this series was hosted by Dennis Farina.
