RIP to Andy Warhol who died on this day in 1987 "Bowie’s obsession with Warhol had started at a young age. His fascination with everything related to The Factory meant that he was an early adopter of Lou Reed’s band the Velvet Underground. In fact, it has been claimed that it was Bowie, way back in the late sixties, that had given the band their first British cover as he sang ‘Waiting For The Man’ to a somewhat bemused audience" - tinyurl.com

In a 1987 interview with Option, Stephen Morris commented that the "mad ending" to "Every Little Counts" – which sounds like a vinyl record needle skipping the groove – is similar to the ending of The Beatles' "A Day in the Life". "It is a story written and dedicated to my younger self, that the meter of your world will keep on running and there is hope to be had," she describes of the record. R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe would often explain in the stage banter that preceded “Life and How to Live It” in concert that the song is about a guy, Brivs Mekis, who had 2 homes, connected by a hole in a wall.
