Songwriter Matthew Caws on "Always Love": "I still have strong feelings for this song. The words still resonate with me. I feel like most people can identify with wanting to feel part of a loving relationship, of a warm and mutually supportive partnership. I’ve never gotten tired of singing it." -- See Nada Surf performing live at The Triple Door as part of KEXP's VIP Club Concert series in January 2020. That session included "Always Love": youtu.be.

Written by Lemonheads leader, Evan Dando, "My Drug Buddy" tells an opaque tale of a couple who take a friendly stroll, making arrangements for drugs along the way. The female backing vocals on this song are by Juliana Hatfield, who also played bass on the album.

By request! Andy Bell reveals, "I remember writing the riff in a hotel room on a very early Ride tour. We were in a bed and breakfast type scenario, and I was sitting on a bed with an acoustic to get that four-chord pattern which is really very simple. It’s played on two 12-strings. People seem to be quite interested with the guitar sound on this record, if there are fades or effects, but there’s not; it’s just two 12-strings. It’s just one of those magical songs." bit.ly Ride came to the KEXP studio in 2017 for a sublime performance that included this glorious track: bit.ly Fun fact: Did you know that Ride was the final band to play live in the old KEXP Dexter & Denny studio? For Talking Heads' youngest fan, Miles, age 3. “I wanted to write a song that presented a resigned, even joyful look at doom,” Byrne wrote in the liner notes of Once in a Lifetime: The Best of Talking Heads. “At our deaths and at the apocalypse… (always looming, folks). I think it succeeded. The front bit, the white gospel choir, is kind of tacked on ’cause I didn’t think the rest of the song was enough… I mean, it was only two chords. So, out of embarrassment or shame, I wrote an intro section that had a couple more in it.”: www.youtube.com

Playing The Moore Wednesday, March 13th, performing Bob Dylan's 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert. Cat Power played a set recreating Bob Dylan’s legendary 1966 show at the Royal Albert Hall (actually the Manchester Free Trade Hall —but long known as the “Royal Albert Hall Concert” due to a mislabeled bootleg). Dylan’s 1966 concert was the culmination of one of the most consequential tours in the history of rock & roll – when he electrified his songs, and by doing so enraged his devoted audience. In November 2022, Cat Power brought those songs back to the Hall, performing them in the same order as Dylan himself: the first half of the show being an acoustic set before being joined by her electric band for the second half. www.catpowermusic.com catpower.bandcamp.com

Released on this day in 1974! "In May of 1974, Bowie's next phase of all-original work was unleashed in the form of the dystopian epic Diamond Dogs. Rife with tension and foreboding—punctuated by the raucous title track, the ominous 1984 and perennial glam anthem Rebel Rebel—Diamond Dogs' conceptual sprawl unfolded in vivid contrast to the disco music that was beginning to crowd the airwaves." www.davidbowie.com

"Brown Paper Bag" is from the upcoming DIIV album, "Frog In Boiling Water" The write: “...the way we see it, it’s both a pop song and a sludgy song, a country song and a shoegaze song, a dreamy song and a decidedly 90’s ‘rock’ song. we built it around tape samples that loop just underneath the surface and what is probably the weirdest guitar tuning we’ve ever used. recording it, we talked about mojave 3, built to spill, and the melvins. while the rest of the record focuses on the larger external world, this one dwells on a specific internal experience of living in it: what does this world feel like sometimes? ever feel like a brown paper bag?” Frog In Boiling Water is out 5/24 via Fantasy.
