"This song is about a guy who had a girlfriend, but then she broke up with him. Like it says in one of the verses, "I got up to wash my face, when I come back to bed someone's taken my place." But later on they get back together - "Jubilation, she loves me again.""

'Here Comes My Baby' was written in 1966 by Cat Stevens and it showed up on the 1999 Rushmore soundtrack. Cat almost released it as his first single, but "I Love My Dog" was thought to be stronger. After the success of "I Love My Dog", "Here Comes My Baby" was shelved for several months.
The Tremeloes picked the song up and it became their breakthrough hit in America and their first hit in the UK in 1967. The song's success helped establish Cat Stevens as a songwriter and he included it on his first album Matthew And Son.

"In Spite of Ourselves" is the story of two imperfect people who are perfect together. He drinks too much beer and tells corny jokes; she swears too much and puts catsup on her eggs. They not only look past each other's flaws, they find them endearing. It's a love that will last in spite of themselves.
The In Spite Of Ourselves album is a collection of duets Prine did with female singers. This title track he sings with Iris DeMent.

This was featured in the final scene of the John Hughes-directed movie Pretty in Pink, and OMD wrote it specifically for the film. Andy McCluskey of OMD explained: "We were delighted to be asked by John, and went to the set where Molly and John Cryer were shooting. Unfortunately, the original song that we wrote didn't fit after they changed the whole ending (the original ending had Molly Ringwald's character choosing Duckie, who was played by Cryer, instead of Andrew McCarthy's Blane)."
Thanks to its use in the movie, this was the biggest hit for OMD in America.

Tom Bailey reflected on this track, made famous after being featured in the film Sixteen Candles: "If You Were Here," and it's a song which originally addressed an unsureness about honesty in relationships. But when I looked at it again, I recognized a hidden meaning, as well, which was going back to this song after 30 years - nearly 32 years in this case. I thought, Well, what's happened in that time? What have we become? What have we done? It has that sense of optimism about the world being destined to be a better place. Has that borne fruit, or are there any disappointments to confess?" www.songfacts.com
This was featured in the 1989 movie Say Anything in a scene where John Cusack plays this from a Boom Box he holds over his head to win the heart of Ione Skye.
Cameron Crowe, who directed the film, was going to use Billy Idol's "Got To Be A Lover," but it didn't work with the scene. Crowe got the idea to use this when he played a tape from his wedding which had the song on it. Because it was a deeply personal song, Gabriel did not want to let him use it, but when Crowe called and sent him a tape of the movie, Gabriel loved it and gave his approval. bit.ly
"Don't You (Forget About Me)" is the big song from the 1985 movie The Breakfast Club, directed by John Hughes.
Simple Minds wanted to use their song "Alive and Kicking" in the film, but "Don't You (Forget About Me)" was written to the script and was the only option, which the band didn't understand at first.

'Just As I Am' was the debut studio album from soul musician Bill Withers, and features his hits "Ain't No Sunshine," and "Grandma's Hands." This was Withers' first hit.
Bill Withers explained how this song came about: "I was watching a movie called Days Of Wine And Roses (1962) with Lee Remick and Jack Lemmon. They were both alcoholics who were alternately weak and strong. It's like going back for seconds on rat poison. Sometimes you miss things that weren't particularly good for you. It's just something that crossed my mind from watching that movie, and probably something else that happened in my life that I'm not aware of."

Mike Score, the Flock frontman revealed the meaning behind this song. "'Space Age' was just about intimacy, if you'd like. When you meet somebody there is an instant eye contact if the chemistry is right. If everything is right, you catch their eye... that whole 'across the crowded room/caught your eye' thing. The lyrics explain that: 'I saw your eyes and you made me smile.'"

The House of Love is the second album by British alternative rock band the House of Love, released on Fontana Records in 1990. It should not be confused with the band's debut album, which is also called The House of Love. It is generally referred to either as Fontana or The Butterfly Album.

Dave Faulkner revealed that the song was written not about a former lover but about the split with Radalj "Basically, when Rod Radalj left the Gurus he was very dismissive of us, trying to move on and kind of burn everything behind him: ‘Oh, it’s not worth staying in that band. They’re terrible!’ So I basically turned that emotion around: ‘Here’s this guy who ditched us and he’s acting like the spurned lover!’ It was me saying, 'You'll regret it.'...Well, yeah, I just turned all that stuff into a relationship song. I don’t know why people don't realise that it's an anger song. You're right, they think it's a longing song. But it's not a song about 'I wish you'd come back' but 'You'll wish you were back!"

The first single from Dramarama's debut album Cinéma Vérité.
According to Dramarama singer John Easdale, it was written about my ex-wife and I. We lived in a one-room apartment downstairs from where the rest of the band lived in a two-bedroom apartment in Lodi, New Jersey. Couples often tell me it's "their" song, and I'm flattered that they feel the emotion and passion of it, but I am always a bit reluctant to mention that it is essentially an ode to a bitter break-up.

This song is about as fun as a song can be, as Tollefson tells a girl that he and she share a love for Neutral Milk Hotel and Halo Benders and that her new boyfriend can stick to Green Day and the Breeders. The song is a little valentine to indie bands and fans in the know.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Bob's son Stephen Marley, a musician who often performs the song, considers "One Love" his dad's signature song.
"Love is the answer to all of these issues," he told Steve Baltin in the book 'Anthems We Love.' "It is love for humanity, love for the environment, love is the universal cure for all of these things, our world being in some of these positions we're in."

This incorporates parts of the 1965 Impressions song "People Get Ready." Impressions leader Curtis Mayfield, who wrote that song, was a big influence on Bob Marley, and "People Get Ready" contains many elements of Marley's message: unity, spirituality and struggle.
The initial version of "One Love" didn't credit Mayfield, but when the 1977 version was issued, it was listed as "One Love/People Get Ready" and credited to Marley and Mayfield.
