For Michael and all who loved him. Thanks for changing the trajectories of so many lives.

Here's what John wrote about his pal Michael on Instagram: It’s hard to write this but my dear friend, brother in music, the man who started Loveless Records with me one drunken night at the Crocodile has died. With a heavy heart, the legend, Michael Hukin died from a brain aneurysm. He was one of a kind. Wicked humor, impeccable taste in music, always in black but a heart of gold. He will always be one of my favorite music writers and someone who didn’t back down. He was one of those friends that understood you without explaining yourself, he cared deeply for me and my sister and reached out right after she died to say he had lost a sister. Well, today I lost a brother. I love you man. I’m so happy we saw each other when I was in the UK. I loved your emails each week while you listened to the show. My heart goes out to your loved ones, especially the one who found you again, and you, her….he is irreplaceable.

Noel Gallagher said in an interview with John Harris: "At the time . . . it was written in the middle of grunge and all that, and I remember Nirvana had a tune called 'I Hate Myself and Want to Die', and I was like . . . 'Well, I'm not ...having that.' As much as I ... like him [Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain] and all that ...kids don't need to be hearing that nonsense."

"Jeff Buckley and Cocteau Twins singer, Liz Fraser’s relationship was a whirlwind. They got together sometime in the mid-1990s and were drawn together like magnets ... She met Buckley at the right time, and said that meeting him was like 'being given a set of paints, do you know what I mean? It was just like I had all this colour in my life again'" Read about their whirlwind romance: bit.ly

This song's title was a kind of joke. It had taken the Sundays a couple of years to follow up their debut album and the first single from the second album - this song - was "Goodbye" prompting the NME to say "Goodbye already? You only just bloody came back!"

Western State Hurricanes was a short-lived Seattle-based indie rock band in the late 1990s. It is best known as a precursor to the more successful group The Long Winters—both bands were fronted by songwriter John Roderick, and many Western State Hurricanes songs were later revamped into Long Winters songs. Hey John - Sean in Tustin here. Today would have been my mom's 77th birthday (she passed in 2019). She introduced me to Depeche Mode's music when I was very young, and I've been a huge fan ever since. I was thinking about requesting one of their songs in her memory today ... and then you played "Mercy in You." I kinda feel like her spirit was behind that somehow. I am not alone, and neither are you!

Ann Marie in Texas who is a counselor at Camp Goodtimes (for kids impacted by cancer): A camper once told me: "...you just have to start wherever your feelings want. It's ok to be happy and then sad. Sometimes, I even get mad. Your friends and family will help you too. And help your feelings feel better." ========= Originally formed in 1974 as Tiger Lily, Ultravox burst on to the New Wave scene in the UK in early 1977.
