Springsteen came up with this song in the studio during recording sessions in early 1982. He was playing around with a slow Johnny Cash rhythm which he put to some lyrics he had already written. In 2000, Johnny Cash covered it on Badlands: A tribute to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska.
This song is notable for being Neko’s first “autobiographical” song. From an AV Club interview: AVC: You said this album has the only autobiographical song you’ve ever written, “Hold On, Hold On.” What do you mean by “autobiographical”? This song's title was a kind of joke. It had taken the Sundays a couple of years to follow up their debut album and the first single from the second album - this song - was "Goodbye" prompting the NME to say "Goodbye already? You only just bloody came back!"

On this day in 1956, Tom Bailey, who provided vocals and played keyboards for The Thompson Twins, was born (1984 UK No.2 single 'You Take Me Up', 1984 US No.3 single, 'Hold Me Now').
When the band was preparing to record this song, lead vocalist Tom Bailey said that he was excited, nervous, and "almost over-prepared for it" -- He knew exactly what instruments were going on every track. It took three days to record.

According to Nigel Williamson in The Rough Guide to Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones came up with the idea for “Fool in the Rain” when they heard a samba tune while watching the 1978 World Cup.
“Fool in the Rain” holds a special place in Led Zeppelin history as the last single released by the band before they disbanded in the wake of John Bonham’s death.
New music out from Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade! Dan is releasing the debut album of his solo project, Boeckner, in March.
“I think in a lot of ways in my mind I’m still playing in a punk band in Vancouver,” Boeckner said in a press release. “Starting back when I was a teenager, my life in music has been trying to develop my own musical language, and this record is the beginning of presenting that."
