"Album of the year..." (John Richards, on the air yesterday, January 11th) -- Singer Hanna Joy says about this new single, "There was a lot of confusion and information and rules and anger and people judging people and loss and distrust. I eventually felt so overwhelmed by all the noise, I couldn’t take it anymore. The guitars are kinda shouty, too, or maybe just urgent. I wanted to stack a lot of guitar layers to create almost a guitar choir. We got a friend, Brendan Champion, to play some brass on it, which really elevates the song as it marches along." The “Terrible News" video, directed by Nick Mckk and Claire Giuffre, is a single tracking shot of drummer Harry Day running across a cityscape in ecstatic slow-motion. : www.youtube.com

Peñate told The London Times March 28, 2009 that he wrote this song after being "a naughty boy." The singer-songwriter explained that he had staying up partying for so long that "the clock said 4 o'clock and I had no idea which four it was - no clue whatsoever!" He said the song "is very much about maybe having too much fun. Fun can be addictive, when things don't really seem to matter or be understood." -- Go back, back, back to 2009 to see Jack Peñate perform "Tonight's Today" live in our studio: www.youtube.com

Hi John, we lost my mother-in-law Jane this morning after a long battle with dementia. Full of (bleep) and vinegar! Traveled the world on her own back in the 60's before coming back to marry the love of her life, my wonderful father-in-law. She loved the beach and had a wickedly funny sense of humor. Hey, didn't we play this earlier this morning? Why yes, yes we did. We took our time and did it right.” “What we wanted to accomplish with this record was make something that was fun,” Patrick Carney added. “And something that most bands 20 years into their career don’t make, which is an approachable, fun record that is also cool.”

This song was written in reaction to an incident where the BBC DJ, Steve Wright, played the trite and spunky Wham! track, "I'm Your Man," following a news report about the Chernobyl disaster. Guitarist Johnny Marr, recalled:: "'Panic' came about at the time of Chernobyl. Morrissey and myself were listening to a radio report about it. The stories of this shocking disaster comes to an end and then immediately we're off into Wham's 'I'm Your Man.' I remember actually saying, 'What the f*ck has this got to do with people's lives?' Written by Kevin Shields and Bilinda Butcher, both vocalists and guitarists for My Bloody Valentine, this is the album opener and second single from "Loveless." The track is known for what Shields calls the "glide guitar" technique, which he explained in a 1992 Guitar World interview as "just two amps facing each other, with tremolo. And the tremolo on each amp is set to a different rate. There's a mic between the two amps. I did a couple of overdubs of that, then I reversed it and played it backwards into a sampler. I put them on top of each other so they kind of merged in." -- Here's an in-depth look at the production of this song: www.soundonsound.com

Belfast-based producer and soundtrack creator David Holmes has released his first LP since 2008. He calls the album "a 14-track interrogation of the last decade, time spent watching a decaying, fraying Britain visibly buckling in real time." Clocking in at 75 minutes, this album is not for the faint of heart as Holmes has a message he wants to get across. Calling out the world’s inequality, division, restriction, corruption and lack of control, he sums it up with typical Northern Irish wit saying, “The Troubles feel like pre-production for all this s**t!” -- The track features magnetic vocals by Raven Violet, a regular collaborator with Holmes.
