Phosphorescent performed live in the KEXP studio in 2013. They played four wonderful songs, including "Song for Zula". youtu.be == Phosphorescent's Matthew Houck's life before songs for 'Muchacho' were written was a somewhat ramshackle existence: recording, touring, drinking, taking drugs; late nights, hard mornings. He had begun his musical career in the early nineties, an Alabama native relocated to Athens, Georgia, performing first as Fillup Shack, later as Phosphorescent, and touring widely. bit.ly

In 1964, Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire was the first #1 album when Billboard debuted their Country Album Chart. You may have noticed Cash humming while performing the song. He explained this as a way to get his pitch, as he had to change keys several times during the song.

Good Morning John, I haven’t written in a while but I am listening all of the time. thank you for continuing to be a real and kind and caring person. and for playing killer music! It's my birthday today and the first since my dad finally found his next chapter after a long bout of Alzheimer’s this past Sunday. As you know with that cruel disease they are gone for a while but its not quite the same as being gone gone. If it fits the show, I would love to hear ‘on the road again’ by Willie Nelson. It's one of the first songs I remember knowing together and a fitting send off. Many thanks and much love. Steve

In his memoir, "Beastie Boys Book", Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz wrote that "Sabotage" was about sticking it to the album's recording engineer. “I decided it would be funny to write a song about how Mario was holding us all down, how he was trying to mess it all up, sabotaging our great works of art." bit.ly

Chic's Nile Rodgers was in charge of production for this song. His funk influences can be heard throughout the single - for example, the tempo and the use of The Borneo Horns brass section, He also played guitar on the track. -- The band were at something of a crossroads before "Notorious," having lost two members, and they credit Rodgers with revitalizing their career. During a 1986 performance, Duran Duran's frontman Simon Le Bon introduced Rodgers, saying: "This band went through a difficult time and it might not have made it if it weren't for this gentleman."

Releasing February 9th! This track features backing vocals from Ratboys’ Julia Steiner and Moontype’s Margaret McCarthy. "The jumping off point for this song was a friend telling me about the Lac Megantic rail disaster in Quebec," says singer/guitarist Tom McGreevy. "A 73 car train full of crude oil was left unattended and rolled down a hill before derailing and exploding in a town. I read about it a bunch, and to my understanding it was a scenario where a bunch of small errors built up and compounded each other, with the result being a catastrophe out of proportion with any of the individual failures that precipitated it. The song is about self destructive patterns. How if you try to ignore or minimize issues in your life they can manifest in places you don’t expect." tinyurl.com ducksltdband.bandcamp.com

Greg Dulli broke down the album track by track with Spin Magazine, and shared about this track, "I really liked the riff to the Jackson 5’s 'I Want You Back,' and I had become a big fan of Twin Peaks. 10 years ago today I lost my Dad Chuck unexpectedly. It was especially difficult since we lived so close together. I think about him all the time and how proud he would be of his grandkids and how far they have come in life. I think about all the conversations he and I would have had. I miss him! Can you please play Man of the hour by Pearl Jam. Thank you! Stacy This track was created as an original song for the soundtrack of Tim Burton's film Big Fish. Guitarist Mike McCready stated, "We were so blown away by the movie... Eddie and I were standing around talking about it afterwards and were teary-eyed. We were so emotionally charged and moved by the imagination and humanity that we felt because of the movie." This track was recorded 4 days afterwards.

Mornin John, I was wondering if you could play a song by Elbow, in Memory of our dear friend, Wier Harman, who passed away one month ago, after courageously battling lung cancer for many years. Aside from being the head of Town Hall, he touched many lives with his heart, his intellect, and he made everyone around him feel special... He had a WIDE range of musical interests, but I believe Elbow was also long time fave... Thx and have a great day Duncan
