The drum beat for this 1994 Enigma hit is sampled from Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" Thank John Bonham!
Moby sampled this song by Deep Forest in the song "Flying Foxes."
Deep Forest's sound has been described as an "ethno-introspective ambient world music". They were nominated for a Grammy Award in 1994 for Best World Music Album, and in 1995 they won the Award for the album Boheme.
The song Porcelain was based on an emotional breakup. Moby recalled:
"I was involved with this really, really wonderful woman, and I loved her very much. But I knew deep in my heart of hearts that we had no business being romantically involved. So, it’s sort of about being in love with someone but knowing you shouldn’t be with them."
The title of the song is an allusion both to Orinoco Studios (now Miloco Studios), where it was recorded, and to the river of the same name.
The music video for this songs was nominated for a Grammy. Watch it here:

The band said of this single: "We wrote this song last year together with songwriter and producer Björn Yttling. It was the first time we wrote for First Aid Kit with someone else and it was very inspiring. The song was written in the spur of the moment, almost like a stream of consciousness. It's about feeling stuck inside your own thoughts and desperately wanting to escape."

A couple days late...
"New Year's Day" was the first U2 song to chart in America, where it reached #53, but the song got a lot of exposure on MTV and attracted the kind of fans that tell their friends. In the UK, it was their first Top 10 hit, reaching #10.
The single was released, not on New Years Day, but on Jan 10, 1983.
The Jesus and Mary Chain will celebrate their 40th year as a band with Glasgow Eyes, their eighth album, on March 8 via Fuzz Club.

English Settlement is XTC's fifth record and a departure from previous records. Principle song writer Andy Partridge hated touring and intended to develop a sound that didn't favor live performance in hopes to reduce touring expectations. This would continue for the remainder of the band's career, and arguably produced their best work.

Happy birthday to Bernard Sumner!
“Love Vigilantes” is the first song on New Order’s third album, 1985’s "Low-Life." It’s a record that established the band’s own unique potency and helped to legitimize the quartet as its own entity separate from Joy Division, its original incarnation. The song is attributed to all four band members (Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert), although the idea and lyrics sprung mainly from singer and guitarist Sumner.: americansongwriter.com
"Good morning! Today marks 21 years I have been a mom. My son Duncan emerged after 38 hours of labor on a cold, snowy Settle morning. Since then he has brought so much joy (and agony haha) to my life. After a celebration tonight he flies back to England where he goes to college. Can you play Groove is in the Heart for me? I listened to it in labor and love it any and every day, just like my kiddo. Thank you!"
Aseop Rock's ninth record is described as a "loose concept album" with themes ranging from technology and capitalism.

"The [Kent State] incident spurred The Isley Brothers to record “Ohio/Machine Gun.” Fusing Neil Young with Jimi Hendrix, The Isleys re-framed the narrative of the song around rising racial tensions, bridging the cultural gap between the two songs as a deliberate statement: music was one of the few forces that could bridge the racial divide and bring people together - cultural connective tissue for a divided world." - jperiod.com
'I'm New Here' is the 15th and final studio album by American vocalist and pianist Gil Scott-Heron, released in 2010. This song is an adaptation of blues musician Robert Johnson's "Me and the Devil Blues" (1937). gilscottheron.net

From the debut studio album, "Boy" was written by band member Theodore “Ted” Ottaviano. The song describes the frustrations of a girl with feelings for a boy who likes boys. - www.bookoflovemusic.com
"A Little Respect" was written by Vince Clarke and Andy Bell, and released on Erasure's 1988 album "The Innocents". Andy Bell was one of the first openly gay pop stars and he would sometimes introduce this song on stage by saying: "When I was a little girl, I asked my mummy, 'Can I be gay when I grow up?' She replied, 'Yes, if you show a little respect."

Originally released on this day 41 years ago!
"“When somebody says ‘“Sweet Dreams” is 40 years [old],’ you go, ‘Blimey,’” Stewart recalled about the song from an earlier interview last year. “So much fun, so little time. And if I get in a car, somehow every third car ride, Eurythmics comes on the radio. Or I'm in a coffee shop or wherever, it's around all the time 40 years later. I think it has a lot to do with the person, the duo or the band, but I really do believe it's the power of the song...The song is king, really.”" - bit.ly
