More on U2 releasing their album Rattle and Hum on this day 35 years ago (1988):
The album was also released with a companion rockumentary film directed by Phil Joanou. The title, Rattle and Hum, is taken from a lyric from "Bullet the Blue Sky", the fourth track on The Joshua Tree. The image used for the album cover and movie poster, depicting Bono shining a spotlight on Edge as he plays, was inspired by a scene in the live performance of "Bullet the Blue Sky" recorded in the film and album, but was recreated in a stills studio and photographed by Anton Corbijn.

The bands are both celebrating 20 years of their albums Transatlanticism and Give Up. Transatlanticism, released in 2003, is a concept album exploring a theme of long-distance romance. Transatlanticism was mainly recorded at the Hall of Justice, a studio in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood.
In a 2009 interview, Stone Roses lead singer Ian Brown explained that he "didn't actually want people to adore me. I was trying to say then, if you want to be adored, it's like a sin, like lust or gluttony or something like that."

Iron & Wine have announced Who Can See Forever, a new concert documentary and live album that will be out November 17 via Sub Pop.
The film, directed by Josh Sliffe, captured a performance at Saxapahaw, North Carolina’s Haw River Ballroom and features performances of 19 songs from across Sam Beam’s discography, including Thomas County Law. Watch the performance from the film here:

Who by fire, one of Leonard Cohen’s most loved songs, was inspired by the medieval liturgical Jewish poem Unetanneh Tokef, known from the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur prayers.

"Who by Fire" explicitly relates to Cohen's Jewish roots, echoing the words of the Unetanneh Tokef prayer and sung as a duet with Janis Ian (also Jewish; her birth name is Janis Eddy Fink). The song was written after Cohen's improvised concerts for Israeli soldiers in Sinai during the Yom Kippur War.
Private Revolution is the debut album by the British rock band World Party. At the time, singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Karl Wallinger was the only member of World Party, and the only person pictured on the cover.

"Bullet the Blue Sky" was the fourth track from their 1987 album The Joshua Tree and lyrically, the song was inspired by a trip that lead vocalist Bono made to Nicaragua and El Salvador, where he saw firsthand how locals were affected by United States military intervention in the region. "Bullet the Blue Sky" is one of the band's most overtly political songs, with live performances often being heavily critical of political conflicts and violence.
Good morning from Portugal. My husband and I came to Portugal to finally see The National abroad. It was an epic show last week (the Portuguese are superfans like us!). We are now beachside and while we are enamored with this beautiful country and friendly people, we are saddened by what’s happening in Israel. "Into Your Arms" is a cover version of a song written and recorded previously by Love Potions, bandmate Nic Dalton's former band, and it became the Lemonheads' biggest charting hit.
"Into Your Arms" first came out in 1989, originally by Australian duo Love Positions, consisting of Robyn St. Clare (who wrote the song) and Nic Dalton.
In 1992, Dalton joined the Lemonheads, who covered the song on the album Come On Feel the Lemonheads.
Written by Lemonheads leader, Evan Dando, "My Drug Buddy" tells an opaque tale of a couple who take a friendly stroll, making arrangements for drugs along the way.
The female backing vocals on this song are by Juliana Hatfield, who also played bass on the album.
