Psychedelic Furs will be playing TONIGHT (October 3rd) in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre with Squeeze!
Lead singer Chris Martin admitted that "Shiver" was written for a specific woman. The song contains influences attributed to American singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley, whom Coldplay's early influences were drawn from. The song's lyrics are a reference to Martin's unrequited love.

Skinny Pelembe and Beth Orton's cover of Leonard Cohen’s 1974 track “Who by Fire.”
Orton shared: "I have always felt connected to the work of Leonard Cohen. I toured “I’m Your Man” with an amazing cast of people, and every night I was intrigued by the mystery of “Who by Fire.” I was never totally satisfied that I understood the song. When Doya [Skinny Pelembe] sent me his version I was immediately taken by the Serge Gainsbourg quality of the drums and the overall feel, and I loved the cheek and punk-like spirit of this version, and seeing as I was in a studio in Paris, I didn’t give a second thought to throwing myself into Doya’s re-interpretation. Climbing inside the words this way brought the meaning of the song into new focus, the passion and heart-breaking inevitability of human nature that Leonard Cohen writes of like no other came alive to me finally"

Woodie Guthrie, American singer-songwriter and guitarist passed away on this day in 1967 at age 55.
The lyrics of California Stars was originally written by Woody Guthrie, but Guthrie never recorded it or wrote music down for it. No exact date is known for the lyrics, and could be dated anytime between the 1930s to 1940s. Although Guthrie's recording career was more or less over by 1947, his estate approached Billy Bragg in 1995 to set Woody's handwritten, unrecorded lyrics to music. Thus the song is a collaboration piece with Wilco that took place 30 years after Guthrie died.

Plainsong is the name given for Gregorian chants and other Catholic liturgies.
The song is similar to a religious chant, and details a somber conversation happening between two people.
"Ceremony" was New Order's debut single and one of the last Joy Division songs to be composed, with lyrics written by lead singer Ian Curtis. However, prior to his death, the members of Joy Division had agreed not to continue under the Joy Division name should any one member leave. The band performed for a while without a name.
"..But it's nothing to cry about, 'cause we'll hold each other soon.."
