This song was commissioned by the BBC for their coverage of the 2012 Olympics. Elbow were asked after their "One Day Like This" track was featured in the BBC's coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The full song lasts six and a half minutes, but it was written in such a way so that it could be divided into different minute or two long elements for use over both winning and losing footages...Guy Garvey doesn't sing on this song, instead Elbow got an especially assembled gospel choir to provide the vocals. www.songfacts.com

On this day in 1993, Nirvana released "In Utero". Darker, more robust and at points far more emotionally piercing than what came before it, this Steve Albini-produced masterclass sees the band largely return to their abrasive roots, semi-reminiscent of their debut, 1989’s Bleach. Concurrently, frontman Cobain conceived lyrics that heavily allude to the present complexity of his personal life and struggles, despite claiming it is a “very impersonal” body of work. faroutmagazine.co.uk

Buffalo Tom release Big Red Letter Day on this day in 1993. Hey John, thanks for showcasing Big Red Letter Day! Buffalo Tom was my first 21 and over show (at Moes in Seattle) and it was such an incredible experience. From that moment forward, any night of the week I could escape whatever BS was happening and lose myself in loud guitars, singalong choruses and a true sense of joy by witnessing live music. Now that I'm 50 I don't get to as many shows as I used to, but when I do they still have that same sense of community and wonder. Thanks for always being the beacon of hope so many of us need in the morning (especially today with the Frightened Rabbit)! Proud to Amplify, Kevin in Mill Creek

Written by Lemonheads leader, Evan Dando, "My Drug Buddy" tells an opaque tale of a couple who take a friendly stroll, making arrangements for drugs along the way. The female backing vocals on this song are by Juliana Hatfield, who also played bass on the album. She released her first solo album, Hey Babe, earlier in 1992. At this point in 1992, The Lemonheads were essentially an Evan Dando solo project.

Happy Birthday, Bill Murray! Despite his bright, cheery, and ever-funny exterior, Bill Murray has grappled with feeling low from time to time, just like the rest of us. What's one tried-and-trued way he freed himself from a state of gloom? A good old-fashioned dose of country music. In a 2017 video interview posted on the YouTube channel of John Prine — the Americana singer and songwriting legend who sadly passed away last year from complications resulting from coronavirus — Bill Murray talks about a time in his life when he found comfort and solace in Prine's lyrics. www.southernliving.com

We all do. But what I write for songs is much different than personal poetry. When people hear rock and poetry, they start thinking Jim Morrison. Oh, one of our greatest American poets, Jim Morrison. Yeah.”' -- tinyurl.com
