Bob Dylan originally wrote this song for The Band in 1967. Nina Simone performed it on her 1969 album, "To Love Somebody." This album was released at the time when many of the record companies were attempting to push their jazz artists into the mainstream by having them record the popular songs of the day – to be attractive to that “hip, young audience.”

Utah based solo artist (Luc) ford. says "The album title, ‘Guiding Hand,’ is a tribute to the people in our lives who give us momentum and push us forward. For Luc, that force is intangibly linked to his older brother Parker who passed away in a swimming accident when Luc was 7. Parker had just arrived at college that summer and was in a water activity where a classmate of his got pinned in a hidden whirlpool under a bridge. Parker ended up diving in twice in an effort to rescue that friend. While he was able to save that student’s life, Parker was knocked unconscious underwater and fell into a coma which he never came out of.
The hands seen on the cover of this record are plaster casts of his Mom and Parker's joined hands, which his parents had made in the mortuary during the week between his passing and burial.

"The Weight" sampled South Bronx's 1980 song, "The Big Throwdown."
Bob Babbitt of the Motown house band The Funk Brothers recalled to Mojo magazine February 2009 the recording of this track: Putting it together was simple, we just did that one song in the three-hour session and we had enough time left over to eat some BLT sandwiches. We didn't know it was going to be political, because the lyrics weren't written when the rhythm track was recorded.
These Staten Island instrumentalists are still bringin' it after two decades playing together.

Songwriter Matthew Caws on "Always Love": "I still have strong feelings for this song. The words still resonate with me. I feel like most people can identify with wanting to feel part of a loving relationship, of a warm and mutually supportive partnership. I’ve never gotten tired of singing it." bit.ly
Dear GOD this is amazing.

“I wrote and recorded the demo in my bedroom in one day, during my final year of university in 2018,” frontwoman Lily Fontaine commented on the inspiration behind ‘The World’s Biggest Paving Slab’ in press materials. Adding: “Moving to a city for university forced me to reflect on how my experience of growing up in and around Pendle, how witnessing the social, economic and political issues that exist around there in juxtaposition with the beauty of the landscape and the characters that live within in it, has shaped me into the artist and person that I am.”
We just got our hands on a version of The Breeders “Divine Hammer,” featuring Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis on vocals. It's named “Divine Mascis" and will appear on their 30th anniversary reissue of the album, which comes out this Friday, September 22, via 4AD.
“At the time, J Mascis was a guitar god… we sent him the tape to put guitar on, so when it came back and he’s got rid of our voices and just put his vocal on, we were like, ‘Wha?!’ But it’s really cute,” Kelley Deal told Uncut. “There’s a freshness to it, and it’s just so weird. I like his voice and the idiosyncratic way he sings and delivers lines. So I thought it was really neat.”
J. Mascis choppin' at our hearts.

The band recorded The Twits in eight weeks in a makeshift home studio in Mallorca. It’s Bar Italia’s second full-length of the year, following their debut, Tracey Denim, which dropped in May. We like them a lot.
Released on this day 39 years ago. Whoa.
Not only was this released on this day 38 years ago, but it's also drummer Alannah Currie's 66th birthday today!
Look here. We're playing New Wave Ballads cuz it's rainy, and cuz, well, you know.
And you wanted to dance so I asked you to dance
But fear is in your soul
Some people call it a one night stand
But we can call it paradise
Don't say a prayer for me now
Save it 'til the morning after
8th grade slow dance time. Uh, or I'll just hold this wall up.

He looked across the dance floor. They looked back. He smiled. A smile was returned. This song played. His hair, high. Hers, higher. Both wore eyeliner. Romance was in the air.
Our new hero is Regan in Edmonds who wrote: "Either my heart's gonna explode or I'm going to have an orgasm because all the 80s prom music is sending me. Keep up the good work. If I wasn't 51, I'd be having a baby at nine months."
Man, these Long Island Iced Teas go down sooooo smooth.
Maybe Long Island Iced Teas weren't the best idea.
Boom. That just happened.
