Hans Zimmer, German composer and music producer, was born on this day in 1957. He has won two Oscars (Best Original Score for The Lion King and Dune) and four Grammys, and has composed music for over 150 films, including The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Man of Steel, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and No Time to Die.

Moby recorded and mixed the album himself in his apartment on Mott Street in Manhattan, New York.
Moby has described Everything Is Wrong as "a record that almost served as a lifeboat for the songs I cared the most about", noting that he attempted to cover as many musical styles as possible not "out of trying to be eclectic, but just because I was in love with all of these genres and I felt like this may be my only chance to make a record."

In his insightful remarks about the album, Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff, a dear friend of the band, described their preoccupation with salvaging five-year-old drum tracks rather than overdubbing new ones as “my definition of insane.”

"New York" is from U2's 2000 album, All That You Can't Leave Behind, written by Bono who lived there at the time. The song's subject matter is a picturesque description of New York City and of the people who live there, and was later altered following the events of September 11, 2001.
This album was recorded spontaneously in bedroom closets and living rooms, which may explain the haunting urgency you hear in Brandon Summers voice. The band also took its time on the album. After the bulk of official recording was completed, a listen through all the demos and snippets on Summers' hard drive convinced bandmate Benjamin Weikel there were more gems in the rough, and more songs were added.

"Everybody Wants to Rule the World" was written by Roland Orzabal, Ian Stanley and Chris Hughes, and produced by Hughes. The song was a "last-minute" addition during recording sessions of Songs from the Big Chair (1985). The decision to include the song in the album came after Orzabal played two chords on his acoustic guitar for Hughes. It was recorded in two weeks and added as the final track on the album. The original lyric was "Everybody wants to go to war", which partially contributed to Orzabal's initial indifference towards the song.
The Morning Show has voted that this is the best song right now.
The Bug Club are a three piece from the little-known rock n' roll hotbed that is Caldicot, Monmouthshire, Wales. They've been gigging relentlessly for a few years now (until recently, obviously), mainly in Cardiff and Bristol.

Yesterday was the anniversary of Jim Carroll's death, who passed away on September 11, 2009 at age 60 in New York from a heart attack while ill with pneumonia and hepatitis C. He was found at his desk, still working on his writings.
This was the debut album by The Jim Carroll Band, led by Jim Carroll, who is also notable for publishing the 1978 memoir The Basketball Diaries. He was well known for his poetry and writings.

The track was initially not one of Brian Eno's favorites, and the band almost abandoned it. According to keyboardist Jerry Harrison, "Because there were so few chord changes, and everything was in a sort of trance ... it became harder to write defined choruses." However, David Byrne had faith in the song and felt he could write lyrics to it. Eno developed the chorus melody by singing wordlessly, and the song "fell into place".
The Independent asked Guy Garvey which were his favorite lyrics of all the ones that he had written. The Elbow frontman replied: "My favorite lyrics either describe a familiar feeling in a new way or describe a specific feeling that you've never heard described before - an emotion that's too complex to be put into words usually, ways of getting to specific feelings. In 'Station Approach,' that's a very particular civic pride, which is a very specific civic feeling. I love Manchester."

Ted Leo started the Pharmacists essentially as a solo project in 1999. His previous band Chisel had broken up in the late 1990s, after which he spent time with the Spinanes and the Sin Eaters. In 1999, he recorded the album tej leo(?), Rx / pharmacists, a solo effort which was highly experimental. In 2000, Leo expanded the project to a full band including James Canty on guitar, Jodi V.B. on bass and Amy Farina on drums. He named the backing band the Pharmacists, and so it began!
XTC released the album, "Black Sea" on this day in 1980.
"Generals and Majors" is a song written by Colin Moulding of the English rock band XTC, and was the album Black Sea's first single. Moulding accordingly wrote the song as a satirical take on the phrase "oh, what a lovely war".
