This song appears to have been influenced by the experimental German Krautrock movement. Krautrock (German for "cosmic music") is a broad genre of experimental rock that developed in West Germany in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
An interviewer asked Jez Williams (guitarist) and his brother Andy (drums) if the band had been listened to old Krautrock records when they wrote this song. Andy replied: "Krautrock is definitely something that we all agree on, and have been fans of for a long time. I'd say Kraftwerk as well. Man Machine is one of those records that I keep going back to over and over again since I can remember."
The Leaders of the Free World album cover is highly reminiscent of the 1976 album A Trick of the Tail by Genesis, a group which is a major influence on Elbow frontman Guy Garvey. The album cover depicts five characters from the songs on the album itself.
The album's title is taken from the epigraph of the T. Michael Martin novel The End Games, which claims "Everything not saved will be lost", which originated as a "Nintendo 'Quit Screen' message".

The Fall were an English post-punk group, formed in 1976 in Prestwich, Greater Manchester.
The original version of the track, as well as two remixes of the track, are featured on the Root Down EP from 1994. The song features sample from jazz musician Jimmy Smith's "Root Down (And Get It)".

Calibro 35 is a cinematic funk Italian band formed in 2007 in Milan. Their latest album Nouvelles Aventures was recorded in Naples at Auditorium Novecento, the former Phonotype Records, one of the "most legendary and fascinating" Italian recording studios.

All tracks on Circuital were recorded in the band's hometown of Louisville, Kentucky in a church gymnasium with producer Tucker Martine. The album cover is a close-up shot of a Magic eye tube fitted onto vintage radio receivers from the 1930s. The purpose of tuning eyes in these radio sets was to help tune a station in at its strongest point on the dial.

Today, August 8th, is 808 (drum machine) day! The Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer, commonly known as the 808, is a drum machine manufactured by Roland Corporation between 1980 and 1983. It was one of the first drum machines to allow users to program rhythms instead of using preset patterns. Launched when electronic music had yet to become mainstream, the 808 was a commercial failure. After building approximately 12,000 units, Roland discontinued the 808 after its semiconductors became impossible to restock. It was succeeded by the TR-909 in 1983.
CBC News credits the first use of the 808 to the Japanese electronic group Yellow Magic Orchestra in 1980 on a live version of the song song "1000 Knives," later released on the album BGM in 1981.

The 808 drum machine attracted a cult following among musicians for its affordability, ease of use, and idiosyncratic sounds. It became a cornerstone of the emerging electronic, dance, and hip hop genres, popularized by early hits such as "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye.

Depeche Mode founding member and keyboardist Vince Clarke had just turned 20 when he wrote this song, which turned out to be the last one he wrote for Depeche Mode. He left the band after the Speak and Spell album was released, later joining Yaz and Erasure.

In the late 1970s, Frankie Knuckles moved from New York City to Chicago, where his old friend, Robert Williams, was opening what became the nightclub called Warehouse. When the club opened in Chicago in 1977, he was invited to play on a regular basis, which enabled him to hone his skills and style. This style was a mixture of disco classics, unusual indie-label soul, the occasional rock track, European synth-disco and all manner of rarities, which would all eventually codify as "House Music".
One more 808er. English synthpop duo Soft Cell came to prominence in the early 1980s, and are primarily known for their 1981 hit version of "Tainted Love."
Gloria Jones recorded the original version of "Tainted Love" in 1964. Jones rose to success in the UK, known there as "The Queen of Northern Soul!" She's worked across multiple genres, including playing a role in the West Coast version of the 1968 musical "Hair", as well as her role as a singer and keyboardist in the glam band T.Rex -- led by her late partner Marc Bolan.

Fine Young Cannibals was formed in 1984 after the dissolution of The Beat, with whom members Andy Cox and David Steele previously played. The duo of Steele and Cox spent eight months listening to over 500 cassettes of potential singers before selecting vocalist Roland Gift.
Fine Young Cannibals appeared as the house band in a nightclub in the 1987 comedy film Tin Men and also contributed songs to the film's soundtrack, including this song "Good Thing."

With samples from James Brown and Funkadelic (among others) "Straight Outta Compton" helped define the West Coast scene for an entire generation of artists and listeners. The track has been selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or artistically significant". Straight Outta Compton was also the title track for the 2015 biopic of the same name.
