Endtroducing.... is the debut full-length from DJ Shadow. The album is featured in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the first completely sampled album. The voice clip on this track comes from a 1974 interview with jazz drummer and percussionist George Marsh. djshadow.com

The track begins with a sampling from composer John Barry's soundtrack from the 1968 motion picture Petulia. After different instrumental variations and the addition of a bass rhythm, the track introduces rapper Roots Manuva with a 4 minute long segment over the original sampling. In his lyrics, he references the TARDIS, a fictional spacecraft used in the popular science fiction television series Doctor Who.

This upcoming album, which will be released on July 21 on Parlophone, follows Blur's last reunion album — 2015’s The Magic Whip — and was produced by James Ford, who last worked with Damon Albarn for the Gorillaz’s 2018 album, The Now Now. "This is an aftershock record, reflection and comment on where we find ourselves now," said Albarn of the new record. Lead guitarist Graham Coxon added, "The older and madder we get, it becomes more essential that what we play is loaded with the right emotion and intention. Sometimes just a riff doesn’t do the job." "For any long-term relationship to last with any meaning you have to be able to surprise each other somehow and somehow we all continue to do that," said bassist Alex James. bit.ly

Dear John, I want you to know how grateful I am for your music every morning. This year has been difficult for me as I have suffered a great loss, and it can be hard to make it through the day. Your show takes me on a journey of love and hope, and helps me feel less alone in this world. Please play Rainy Night in Soho for me any time this week, it is a song that holds a special place in my heart, and shows that the deepest love comes with difficult times as well as good times. Ultimately, that's how love grows through time and becomes truly great. Wishing you lots of love and light, Joanna

It was the first time we wrote for First Aid Kit with someone else and it was very inspiring. The song was written in the spur of the moment, almost like a stream of consciousness. It's about feeling stuck inside your own thoughts and desperately wanting to escape." bit.ly www.firstaidkitband.com

Good morning, John. Happy May 23. I guess it has to be happier compared with yesterday's intentional (fortunately) moodiness. I'm happy because I seem to have made it another year, and with it comes may annual request to hear New Order's True Faith. You've been so kind to work it into your mix over the past umpteen years, and I'm hopeful you can carve out some time to do it again. Thanks again for you and everything KEXP does year 'round to help me and everyone else out in radioland (and streaming land) ride the highs and lows that life sends us. It's challenging somethings, but it's a small price to pay for caring about the good people and good things that make up this world. Jim in Northern Va.

Could you play No Surprises by Radiohead? Thinking of my sister Danielle today and when we saw Radiohead together in Boston in 2018. No particular reason, just missing her and our shared love for the band. Addrienne - No Surprises was actually recorded in only one single take. True innovators of the punk era, the Specials began the British ska revival craze, combining the highly danceable ska and rocksteady beat with punk's energy and attitude, and taking on a more focused and informed political and social stance than their predecessors and peers. The album captures the disaffection and anger felt by the youth of the UK's "concrete jungle"—a phrase borrowed from Bob Marley's 1973 album Catch a Fire. www.thespecials.com

This song is a tribute to soul singer Geno Washington, and performed in approximately the style of Geno Washington's Ram Jam Band. Kevin Rowland and Kevin Archer began working on this song in early 1979, with Rowland writing lyrics to Archer's music. The song bears resemblance to Zoot Money's Big Roll Band's "One and Only Man" and the Turtles' "Happy Together". The "Geno! Geno! Geno!" chant at the beginning and end of the song is sampled from crowd noises on Van Morrison's acclaimed 1974 live album It's Too Late to Stop Now, a favourite of Kevin Rowland's.

Look Sharp! is the debut album by Joe Jackson, released in 1979. The album features one of Jackson's most well-known songs, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?", as well as the title track "Look Sharp", "Sunday Papers", "One More Time" and "Fools in Love". "Sunday Papers" is a takedown of the Fleet Street press, the UK print media that were prone to cover sensationalistic and frightening news stories to boost readership. Jackson had his battles with the press, who often categorized him in ways that weren't to his liking (New Wave?). His message here: don't trust everything you read, and don't let it affect your lifestyle. - bit.ly

On his deeply personal debut solo album, 'Wait Til I Get Over', Durand Jones reflects on his relationship to his hometown of Hillaryville, LA, a town first established as a form of reparations to previously enslaved Black Americans. bit.ly “The interlude ends with my grandmother telling us how she felt about Hillaryville back in the day. Hillaryville is no longer a sanctuary town or ‘place you’d most want to live’. Most people in my generation and younger dream of escaping a place like Hillaryville. And for many, the dream never becomes something more. Life can find a way to keep you there if you will let it. I wanted to express this thought through sound in a raw, wild and raucous way. A build of a groove that feels like it is driving through a muddy swamp. Trapped.” Official Video: youtu.be Durand Jones will be playing Bumbershoot this year.
