Good morning, Morning Show listeners. Start your mornings with this long Jane's Addiction track. At a live show in 1986, Jane’s Addiction front man Perry Farrell cryptically introduced “Summertime Rolls” as “This song’s about getting laid on a waterbed…no…it’s about laying in a park…no, it’s not…yes, it is.” www.janesaddiction.com

The song features only Mike Mills on piano, Michael Stipe on vocals and orchestral instruments arranged by Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck wasn’t needed on the track, but he recalled the song’s creation: “Being competitive bastards that we are, Mike and I started auditioning chord changes and tunes for Michael,” he said. “Mike had a piano instrumental that he played to Michael. He listened once, nodded his head to hear it again, and on the second pass he sang the lyrics. It was ‘Nightswimming,’ exactly like the record we would record a year later. I was standing in the corner dumbfounded.”: americansongwriter.com

"Hljómalind" was a record store in Reykjavík which was run by Kristinn "Kiddi Kanína" Sæmundsson, the band's then-manager. The record shop started out as a mail-order operation, partially run from the Reykjavík flea market Kolaportið. It was for a time Iceland's only Indie Rock record store. The shop moved two times before ending up on Laugavegur 21, where it ran for many years before closing in 2003.[2] The organic co-op café Kaffi Hljómalind later opened on the premises. The Hljómalind house is currently occupied by Kaffibrennslan, a café and sandwich shop. The name "Hljómalind" is made up of two words, "hljóma-", which means sounds or chords, and "-lind", which means fountain, spring or well. It could be translated as "a wellspring of sounds" or "a fountain of music"

The English trio's first album since 2016’s "Not To Disappear." ohdaughter.com Produced by Igor and Elena, Stereo Mind Game was written and recorded in various locations, including Devon, Bristol, and London, England; San Diego, California; Portland, Oregon; and Vancouver, Washington. Tonra shares of the new album, "It has been in the making for a long time, pieced together delicately (obsessively maybe) over years, trying to make it as complete as it could ever feel. I think it’s more optimistic than our past records (but it still has my lyrics.. so.. it’s never going to be full sunshine) but I’ve tried to document experiences, thoughts, feelings, conversations and memories from my life, and hope that we’ve turned them into something listenable, something positive."

New EP from Beach House! “The Become EP is a collection of five songs from the Once Twice Melody sessions,” the band explained in a press release. “We didn’t think they fit in the world of OTM, but later realized they all fit in a little world of their own. To us, they are all kind of scuzzy and spacious, and live in the spirit realm. It’s not really where we are currently going, but it’s definitely somewhere we have been. We hope you enjoy these tunes.” - bit.ly www.beachhousebaltimore.com

NEW MUSIC! Arlo Parks is joined by Phoebe Bridgers on the new single "Pegasus" from Parks' forthcoming album 'My Soft Machine' - out May 26th! ----- 'Pegasus', Parks shares "is about experiencing the warmth and lightness of good love for the first time. It also explores how the absence of chaos and the presence of real connection can be a little bit terrifying after a long time of not having it." As for the album, she writes, "The world/our view of it is peppered by the biggest things we experience—our traumas, upbringing, vulnerabilities almost like visual snow. This record is life through my lens, through my body—the mid 20s anxiety, the substance abuse of friends around me, the viscera of being in love for the first time, navigating PTSD and grief and self sabotage and joy, moving through worlds with wonder and sensitivity—what it’s like to be trapped in this particular body. "There is a quote from a Joanna Hogg film called The Souvenir, it’s an A24 semi-autobiographical film with Tilda Swinton—it recounts a young film student falling in love with an older, charismatic man then being drawn into his addiction—in an early scene he’s explaining why people watch films—‘we don’t want to see life as it is played out we want to see life as it is experienced in this soft machine.' So there we have it… My Soft Machine." bit.ly ------ Catch Arlo Parks' performance live in studio at KEXP last year: youtu.be arloparks.bandcamp.com www.arloparksofficial.com

Writing credit is given to Attrell Cordes (Prince Be of P.M. Dawn) and Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet, as the song is built around samples of their 1983 hit "True," as well as samples from The Soul Searchers' "Ashley's Roachclip." The main drumbeat also samples from Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid in Full".
...
The lyrics for this song were inspired by a crush Spandau Ballet's Gary Kemp had on Altered Images singer and Gregory's Girl star Clare Grogan: "I was infatuated with Clare Grogan," he told The Guardian. "I met her on Top of the Pops and, at one point, travelled up to Scotland to have tea with her and her mum and dad." According to Gary Kemp, the feelings were unrequited and their relationship was platonic, however, it was enough to inspiration to write this song.

. “Lovely Day” was written and produced by Withers, with co-songwriter on the track being Skip Scarborough. who worked with Earth, Wind & Fire, Patti Labelle, LTD, and many other R&B stars before his death in 2003. In an interview with Bill Withers, he explained: "Skip was a very nice, gentle man. The way Skip was, every day was just a lovely day. He was an optimist. If I had sat down with the same music and my collaborator had been somebody else with a different personality, it probably would have caused something else to cross my mind lyrically. It was a combination of the music and the person and the ambiance in the room." -- Toward the end of this song, Bill Withers holds a note for 18 seconds, the longest of any Top 40 hit in the United States. --

Lizzo co-wrote the self-loving anthem with Ricky Reed. This was one of the first songs Lizzo made with Reed. She recalled they were still at the stage when they were checking out their chemistry with each other. Reed played her a piano riff and asked how it made her feel. Lizzo replied that it brought to mind the pink sweater emoji girl with the hair toss. Then the next thing she thought of was checking her nails. "It was a natural statement that came out my mouth," Lizzo said. Reed then responded with the phrase "feeling good as hell." After that, the lyrics rolled out easily.

Released on this day in 1995! Bassist Mick Quinn told Uncut magazine about his contribution to the song. "I think Danny and Gaz cooked up the verse and the chorus - they'll always argue about who came up with that piano," he recalled. "Then I came along and said, well, you need a middle 8. And I took it to G and Gaz did that very rock-and-roll solo over the top, and then I came up with the idea of doing that Peter Green bending solo, and Gaz came up with a harmony for that. We always wrote a lot of lyrics in the pub as we were recording."

Released on this day in 1990! This song was written by Andy Prieboy, who in the mid-'80s was lead singer of the Los Angeles group Wall Of Voodoo. On his 1990 album "Upon My Wicked Son," Prieboy released a duet version with Concrete Blonde lead singer Johnette Napolitano. Concrete Blonde put it on their third album, "Bloodletting." -- In 2013, Napolitano told the story behind this song: ""Wendy was a real person. She was diagnosed with AIDS and rather than suffering the stigma, she decided to commit suicide. It's an old song, so this is a long time ago, and not that anything's changed much, by the way. But it's basically her dialogue with herself as to the decision she's going to make on her own. She's making the decision on her own, it's her one act of dignity in her life. And it's heavy, to say the least."

This song is about how people use technology and material goods to isolate themselves from human contact. Numan has stated that he has Asperger syndrome, which is a mild form of autism, but until he was diagnosed, he had a lot of trouble relating to other people. Numan told Mojo magazine March 2008 about the original inspiration for this song: "A couple of blokes started peering in the window and for whatever reason took a dislike to me, so I had to take evasive action. I swerved up the pavement, scattering pedestrians everywhere. After that, I began to see the car as the tank of modern society." bit.ly

Brand new album from South African artist Skinny Pelembe. From their Bandcamp: "'Hardly The Same Snake' is the sound of the Johannesburg-born, Doncaster-raised artist Doya Beardmore finally finding his voice – both literally and figuratively. But it also meant branching out beyond his safety net to figure out the artist he truly wanted to be. If I hadn't heard rock and roll on the radio, I would have had no idea there was life on this planet.
