The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place is an album about hope.

"Behind The Sun" samples a song recorded by Simin Ghanem, an Iranian classical singer born in 1944. Of the song, ODESZA said “While digging through old records we came across a song by the legendary Iranian singer, Simin Ghanem. It was such a beautifully haunting vocal that we couldn’t really get it out of our heads. Slowly we started to build these symphonic elements around her and piece by piece it started to become this big anthemic track. We wanted to incorporate pieces of live drumming in a new way and ended up running various snare drum elements through a resonator and modulating them to each hit. Overall we really love how this song came together, bringing the past into the present is something we find really exciting and inspiring.” bit.ly

RACHEL MARSHALL, the founder of Rachel’s Ginger Beer and co-owner of bars Montana and Nacho Borracho, died unexpectedly on April 24. The cause of death appears to be cardiac arrest, though it’s not yet confirmed. She was 42 years old.
Reading from her obit in Seattle Met: “Rachel…had fierce mama bear energy and was protective of people in her orbit (and) had a warm heart, savvy mind, and big, squishy emotions.”
She leaves behind her partner, Adam Peters and two beautiful children.
Adam wrote us and said “Just heard you’re doing a tribute to my beautiful soulmate Rachel, who I miss more than I can take. Thank you for this, she would’ve loved it, and she loved KEXP and she loved you. You may want to know her favorite song was “Hunger Strike.”
