Harrison and Clay from ODESZA say “In a lot of ways ("Hopeful") represents us doing our best to remain hopeful in a time of unsureness. We wanted the track to embody a sense of togetherness and to be a reminder that we are not alone even when we feel distant.” odesza.bandcamp.com

"Tomorrow Never Knows" was the first song attempted during the sessions for Revolver, which started at 8 pm on April 6th, 1966, in Studio 3 at EMI Studios (subsequently Abbey Road Studios). Geoff Emerick, who was promoted to the role of the Beatles' recording engineer for Revolver, recalled that the band "encouraged us to break the rules" and ensure that each instrument "should sound unlike itself". Lennon sought to capture the atmosphere of a Tibetan Buddhist ceremony; he told producer George Martin that the song should sound like it was being chanted by a thousand Tibetan monks, with his vocal evoking the Dalai Lama singing from a mountaintop. The latter effect was achieved by using a Leslie speaker. When the concept was explained to Lennon, he inquired if the same effect could be achieved by hanging him upside down and spinning him around a microphone while he sang into it.

Good morning! My brother recently sent me a link for Rebound by Sebadoh. As he mentioned, this song is from 30 years ago and it sounds like one that could have come out 30 days ago.
Appreciate you and the whole KEXP crew so much, John. Keep fighting the good fight!

Good morning! Meow meow meow meow meow!
This song refers to the biblical story of Samson, who had his eyes gouged out by his enemies and eventually killed them all when he was chained to two pillars in their stronghold. He pulled the pillars down, bringing the building down and killing himself and his enemies.
Drummer David Lovering revealed, "It's the perfect example of a true Pixies song. It's got the quiet verse and then it goes all-out for the chorus. The way it's structured, it's two opposing layers. I remember when we recorded it, I thought it was the most compelling thing we ever did." bit.ly

Good morning from NYC, Jon and Owen! Yesterday, my girlfriend, Chris and I flew from Seattle to celebrate her 49th birthday. We're both Amplifiers, and Chris is a CRNA with extensive ICU nursing experience, a true hero. If it pleases the DJ, would you play the Sugar Cubes birthday song for her. She's a Bjork fan and spent 2 weeks traveling Iceland, solo (wow!), this fall. John you gave me some advice when I was going through my lengthy divorce back in 2018. "Get exercise, be with friends" is what you said, in a nutshell, along with assuring me I would find someone meant for me while mentioning your wife, Amy, as an example. Well, I did this past summer, and I'm still stunned. I don't think I believed you. --Erik from Shoreline via NYC

For our Henry.
Fever to Tell was the Yeah Yeah Yeah's debut studio album. The band wanted to finance their debut album themselves and chose to record at the low-budget Headgear Studio in Brooklyn. "It was really important for us to do it on our turf, on our terms", lead singer Karen O later told Spin. "We were all living together, and all the money we used to fund it came out of our pocket."
Frankie Rose - original member of Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls, Vivian Girls and Beverly - has a new record coming out on March 10th, called Love as Projection.
Rose shared in a press released about the song Sixteen Ways that she was, “Counting the ways that things can unexpectedly fall apart on you before anything has even happened yet! Andrew Vowles, the main songwriter of Teardrop, sent an early demo of the song to Madonna, as he initially wanted her to record the vocals for the song, as the band had previously worked with her on their 1995 reworking of the song "I Want You". However, bandmates Robert Del Naja and Grantley Marshall wanted Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins to record the vocals, feeling her ethereal style suited the feel of the piece. Although Madonna was very keen to record the vocals, the two-to-one vote ruled in Fraser's favor.

The band's name comes from a poem by Thom Gunn. The phrase itself originates from Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra Act III Scene 13:
"Come,
Let's have one other gaudy night: call to me
All my sad captains; fill our bowls once more;
Let's mock the midnight bell."
According to singer Guy Harvey, the title of this sixth album from the Manchester band is said, "to do with the fact that there have been [so many] life events. There are five members of the band—people have split up, got together, had children. It never stops, this stuff. Especially round the 40 mark... and yet I wanted to remain celebratory about that. Everybody's feeling relief, with remorse, next to joy, next to loss. But I think laughing very hard and worrying very little is a good way to keep young."
Noble Rot was formed by Alex Edkins of the group METZ and Graham Walsh of Holy F*ck.
The new album will be released March 24.

From Iggy Pop's 19th solo album ‘Every Loser’, this song paints an unflinching picture of life with addiction, detailing how seemingly innocent experiments turn into something more dangerous – “First time you do it with a friend, second time you do it in a bed, third time you can’t get enough and a life gets all fucked up,” Pop sings. -bit.ly
