This song was inspired by an exhibit of the same name the band saw at the Chicago Peace Museum while on tour in 1983. The exhibit featured artwork from Japanese victims of the Hiroshima bombing. The Chicago Peace Museum also had a Martin Luther King exhibit, which would inspire U2's song "Pride (In The Name Of Love)." -- In the beginning of the song, from :04 to :07 seconds, you can hear Larry Mullen Jr. start to hit his drumsticks early. Immediately after, he mutters out "S-it." Then, at :22 seconds, he starts to drum at the correct time. The small glitch has never been removed from the album nor its inclusions on 'Best of' CDs.

"Vow" began in rough demo form in January 1994 before Shirley Manson joined the band. Drummer Butch Vig wrote the original lyrics after reading a newspaper article about a woman who had gone back to get revenge on an abusive husband. By the time Manson came on board, "Vow" was almost complete, but she ad-libbed some additional lyrics. One of the first lyrics she added were the opening lines: "I can't use what I can't abuse And I can't stop when it comes to you..." -- Director Samuel Bayer filmed the performance video over 12 hours in Los Angeles at the start of June 1995. This is a new single from the band's forthcoming "Continue as a Guest," due for release on March 31st. It's the first album since 2019’s "In the Morse Code of Brake Lights." -- New Pornographers frontperson A.C. Newman said about this song: "I pictured this one as a weird little George Saunders–esque sketch, a snapshot. I found myself a lot more concerned with performance and/or delivery, changing melody and phrasing to get a better performance, less concerned, less precious about the original melody or lyric that I wrote. With that in mind, I had the idea of angels visiting me in the night with the message that 'melody ain’t got nothing on.'"

Listen carefully under the guitar and you'll hear a banjo line, which multi-instrumentalist Andrew Farriss added using a sampler. -- INXS guitarist/horn player Kirk Pengilly played the saxophone part, and yes, Michael Hutchence yells "trumpet!" just before it plays. This was an in-joke: The group's other guitarist, Tim Farriss, wanted to play trumpet on the track, but Pengilly overruled him and got his sax solo. In the video version, Hutchence's call for trumpet is removed because it sounds really dumb when you actually see the saxophone.: www.youtube.com

Don't you love this song? You can purchase it on Bandcamp here: babydayliner.bandcamp.com -- Matt Berninger of The National notes the positivity Ethan Marunas emanates. "What I like most about Baby Dayliner’s writing is that there's rarely any meanness in his songs; no forced posturing or aggressiveness; and they are loaded with empathy. He sings about flawed and vain characters but with genuine understanding and kindness. The music is catchy, smart, and weird — something beautiful and odd, that only he does. Baby Dayliner is something uncommon in pop music. He’s unique."

In 2002, Joni Mitchell told Rolling Stone: The only thing I heard in many years that I thought had greatness in it was the New Radicals. My kiddo Rowan just heard this dedication and wondered if he could hear Yoshimi battles the pink robots on his way to school since he turns 8 tomorrow? ❤️🫶🏻💥---Lauren -- Happy birthday tomorrow, Rowan! -- Lead singer Wayne Coyne says the inspiration for the song came from a woman named Yoshimi who played with The Boredoms. He had a recording of her screaming that he thought sounded like a fight. The Boredoms were a Japanese noise-rock group from the early '90s, with roots in the experiments of artists like Sonic Youth. They gained a small following and even played at the famous Lollapalooza festival.

Greg Katz’s statement on the song: Me and Mandy [bassist Amand Tannen] were trying to wrestle with the feeling that success in your career or field kind of feels like selling out, even if you don’t think you’re knowingly capitulating to the demands of later capitalism. Like, work, or art, or whatever, feels somehow more authentic, or just better, if other people don’t like it, or if you’re failing. And maybe it feels like a badge of honor to just reject success altogether, and because of that, there’s maybe an impulse to self-sabotage, like, to do things on purpose that you know will not succeed. Also this song has a nice guitar solo in my opinion, although I am biased, because I played it.

"It's got my verse/chorus/verse/chorus, and then Dave's end part." "I love that that song was so popular because it really was a collaborative thing," he added. "Dave and I depended on each other to make that song work. Growing up as I did in the shadow of Lennon and McCartney, I thought it was cool that we had that collaboration."

Hi John, A few years back a girl, who I think was about 12 at the time, used to request "Take Your Mama" every year on her mother's birthday. I think it was in August. I remember because I happened to catch you announcing it three years in a row and it stuck with me. The girl's probably almost in college by now, because that's what happens to kids. At any rate, it would have been my mother's 82nd birthday tomorrow and I would like to request "Take Your Mama" for her, for that other mother whose birthday is in August, and all the cool mothers out there who need a good thank you from their kids this morning. Hey, John and Owen - thanks for opening the morning up to requests. My mum Jean brought home my first drum kit when I was 14, and it changed my life. I met people and went places I never would have had she not been paying attention to how off the rails I was at that time. A colleague told her an instrument would offer me focus, and he was right. I still play the drums 34 years later with some of my best friends. I met my wife of 20 years because I play the drums. I hear music differently because my mum rented a Pearl Custom kit and set it up in our basement all those years ago. I owe her everything. My sweet, kind mother has undergone two surgeries this week and is currently recovering in ICU. We hope she'll be out of the woods today, so if you're able to, can you please play Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles?
