Tori Amos released Under the Pink on this day in 1994. Tori fought hard for the whistling that comes in over her piano at the beginning of the song. Everyone else - including her then-boyfriend/producer Eric Rosse - was in favor of a mandolin line that guitarist Steve Caton came up with. "Everybody really liked that," she told The Baltimore Sun in 1994. "And even in the mix studio, I was screaming at the top of my lungs that it had to be a whistle. I want the cowboys coming over the hill. Eric was laughing his head off, and the mixer, Kevin Killen, said to me, 'This whistle is naff, Tori.' And I said, 'Well, guess what, Kevin. When you make your own song, you can put your own mandolin on it. This is a whistle. F--king put it in. Put the sample in.' So I got my whistle, and I'm happy as a clam to this day."

The band say “‘Heavy Heavy’ could be a mood, or it could describe the smoothed granite of bass that supports the sound,” they said. “Or, it could be a nod to the natural progression of boys to grown men and the inevitable toll of living, a joyous burden, relationships, family, the natural momentum of a group that has been around long enough to witness massive changes." bit.ly The ambient track's video was directed by Nigerian-Austrian filmmaker David Uzochukwu. The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place is an album about hope. Its cover, designed by Esteban Rey, bears its titular statement scrawled over and over in stark black handwriting, a defiantly positive mantra in the post-9/11 landscape. “That way we could kind of imagine that it was written by someone who sees all the horror and terror of the world, but who is also trying to look at all the wonderful and beautiful things,” explained drummer Chris Hrasky. When asked what’s the best song he’s ever written Moby replied, “God Moving Over the Face of the Waters.” Moby explained, “Ironically enough it’s a song that doesn’t have any lyrics to it. It’s a song called God Moving Over the Face of the Waters, and it’s an instrumental piece of music that, when I was writing it, I had this vision, like at least according to the Old Testament, the creation story, at one point you know, what is it – the earth was without form and void and God was moving over the face of the waters. And this particular piece of music was written with that in mind.”

Ladytron's new album Time's Arrow is out now! Ladytron are an English electronic band formed in Liverpool in 1999. The band's name was taken from the song "Ladytron" by Roxy Music. Former Roxy Music member Brian Eno said in 2009, "Ladytron are, for me, the best of English pop music. They're the kind of band that really only appears in England, with this funny mixture of eccentric art-school dicking around and dressing up, with a full awareness of what's happening everywhere musically, which is kind of knitted together and woven into something quite new."

Cale has hinted at a new album numerous times over the years following the release of M:FANS (2016), his previous studio album featuring reworkings of old songs, and Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood (2012), his last album with all new songs. When M:FANS was released in January 2016 Cale said that another new album with new songs would be released by the end of the year. According to a November 2017 interview, the album was set for a 2018 release. The album was subsequently completed before the COVID-19 pandemic, however its release was then delayed. A few years later, we've finally arrived!

“I remember when we were recording ‘A Certain Romance’ and having a conversation with the producer about the final guitar solo,” said Alex Turner to NME when reflecting on the song. “There’s something that happens at the end of that track where we break some rules in a single moment.
