Tell Somebody is the third single from their new album, Heavy Heavy. The ambient track's video was directed by Nigerian-Austrian filmmaker David Uzochukwu. You can find it here: www.youtube.com Upon announcing the new album last month, the Scottish trio shared a statement regarding its title. “‘Heavy Heavy’ could be a mood, or it could describe the smoothed granite of bass that supports the sound,” they said. “Or, it could be a nod to the natural progression of boys to grown men and the inevitable toll of living, a joyous burden, relationships, family, the natural momentum of a group that has been around long enough to witness massive changes." bit.ly

From Doves second studio album The Last Broadcast, released in 2002. Following the success of their debut album Lost Souls and subsequent tours of the United Kingdom and their first tour of North America, the band entered the studio in January 2001 to begin work on the follow-up album. "When we went back into the studio this time, we were determined to get rid of the perception that people had of us," said Jimi Goodwin in an interview with NME. Jez Williams, the band's frontman, told NME, "This time around, we had a lot more confidence." In another interview with Spinner, Jez furthered, "It was like a big burst of energy... it affected our songwriting. We wanted it to be optimistic, more hopeful." The band moved away from the Cheetham Hill studio they had recorded Lost Souls in for Revolution Studios in Manchester, Parr Street Studios in Liverpool, Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in Bath, The Dairy and 2 kHz Studios in London, and a cottage in Lancashire.

Final Straw was Snow Patrol's third studio album and their debut on a major-label in 2003. The band's A&R representative Jim Chancellor explained the reasons for choosing rock producer Jacknife Lee to oversee the record by saying, "I wanted a record for them that was bigger and bolder and a lot different than their previous records. I wanted them to make a more of a rock album than an indie record." Chancellor, Lee and the band chose fifteen songs to start working on out of an original pool of 24. Critical to the new direction was Gary Lightbody's development into a more rounded songwriter.

We've just got our hands on "Easy Now," the latest single from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds forthcoming album, Council Skies. Of the song, the former Oasis mastermind says it's about growing up in Manchester: "Daydreaming, looking up at the sky and wondering about what life could be. When I was growing up in poverty and unemployment, music took me out of that. Top of the Pops on TV transformed your Thursday night into this fantasy world, and that’s what I think music should be."

"Born of Frustration" was James' first single in America. -- Tim Booth talked about the trouble with recording "Frustration": ".... I did walk into that dumb thing on "Born Of Frustration" where I did those "la-la-las." And I hadn’t heard Simple Minds. We recorded it, and Mark and Saul from James took me into a room before we mixed it and played me Simple Minds, and I went, 'Oh, f---.' They said 'Do you want to change it?' And I said, 'Well, I honestly came on this unconsciously.' And Iggy Pop did la-la-las, which I’m much more likely to have been influenced by. So I left it in, because I figured, James had a rule – no conscious influences are allowed, but you’re allowed unconscious ones.": dontforgetthesongs365.wordpress.com

"Exile in Guyville" was written by Phair as a song-by-song reply to the Rolling Stones' 1972 album, "Exile on Main St." and this song corresponds to "Tumbling Dice." Phair recalled in a 2010 interview: "I remember thinking the most important song happens at the fifth song. Because in my mind 'Tumbling Dice' is the big radio hit. I was like, I need to do the big radio hit there, which is funny because 'Never Said' ended up being the radio hit off that record for me."

Mojo magazine, in its May 2013 edition, asked Kim Deal if she had a sense this song would be a hit. She replied: "Did we record a song that opened with me saying, 'Check 1-2,' and then loads of vocal feedback from my brother's harmonica mike, and think, 'This is destined for radio?' That was the sort of thing that didn't get you played on the radio then. We thought no one would play it."

Billy Nomates second album CACTI is out now! Speaking of the process of writing the new album, Billy Nomates – aka Tor Maries – said: “Writing ‘CACTI’ took just over a year. I wrote very intensely and then none at all. (This seems to be the way I work best). “I picked up old drum machines, mapped out things in my kitchen with the same small micro keyboard I always use and then raided the cupboards and rooms at Invada Studios, to play and experiment with old synths, an upright piano, this weird organ thing. I hope everyone finds their own narrative in ‘CACTI’. I think it’s about surviving it all.” bit.ly billynomates.bandcamp.com

Ben Gibbard describes "Roman Candles" as a concentrated effort to create something "succinct, loud and strikingly direct," sharing that "the lyrics were cobbled from a couple of different songs dealing with my general sense of anxiety; the feeling that the fabric that weaves a functioning society together was crumbling during the pandemic." "Roman Candles is about the crippling, existential dread that goes hand in hand with living in a nervous city on a dying planet. And that the only way to be in the moment is to let it all go."
