"Hanging on the Telephone" is a song written by Jack Lee. The song was released in 1976 by his short-lived US West Coast power pop band The Nerves; in 1978, it was recorded and released as a single by the American rock band Blondie.

In an interview after being shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, British artist FKA Twigs named Germfree Adolescents as her favorite album of all time. All of the songs on the album were written by Poly Styrene.
This song was inspired by a fire in Karen O's East Village apartment when she was 19. She said, "If the world is on fire, I hope the most beloved stay protected and that we do all we can to protect what we cherish most in this life. “Burning” is a song about that feeling, smoke signals for the soul."

Thompson also played drums ("Rock and Roll", "Whole Lotta Love", "Stairway to Heaven") with Led Zeppelin (along with Phil Collins) at Live Aid in 1985 and performed with members of Chic on "We Are Family" and "He's the Greatest Dancer" by Sister Sledge and "Upside Down" and "I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross.

I missed getting this note in on time for the Music Heals day, but since you’re doing 1978…
My dad died of a glioblastoma in 2013 and while I’m always doing better I still miss him and his ridiculous sense of humor. I was talking about him with my daughter on our ride to school. How even though he’s not here, I can still have the conversations with him that we never got the chance to have. I can imagine his laugh, and listen to the music he enjoyed.
Until I was 5 we owned a campground in Spokane, and the bedroom I shared with my sister was directly above the recreation room, where for better or worse, the jukebox was located. In the late 70s early 80s, every jukebox had abba on it and that was like a lullaby to us. We’d hear that baseline coming up through the floor and it would put me to sleep knowing that my parents were just downstairs. When I was in High school, I asked why of all artists, Abba was played so much. He laughed and immediately put on Take a Chance on Me (single released 1978) and proceeded to dance on the coffee table. In front of me. In front of my friends. In front of my new girlfriend. Horrifying to a 16 year old, hilarious to a 36 year old at his father’s memorial.

Remembering guitarist Keith Levene who passed on the 11th of November. He was a founding member of both the Clash and Public Image Ltd (PiL). While Levene was in PiL, their 1978 debut album Public Image: First Issue reached No 22 in the UK album charts, and its lead track "Public Image" broke the top 10 UK singles chart.
Joey explains the chorus: "It's a road song. I wrote it in 1977, through the 78. Well, Danny Fields was our first manager and he would work us to death. We would be on the road 360 days a year, and we went over to England, and we were there at Christmas time, and in Christmas time, London shuts down. There's nothing to do, nowhere to go. Here we were in London for the first time in our lives, and me and Dee Dee Ramone were sharing a room in the hotel, and we were watching The Guns of Navarone. So there was nothing to do, I mean, here we are in London finally, and this is what we are doing, watching American movies in the hotel room."
This single was written following a reggae all-nighter attended by Strummer and Don Letts in June 1977, and was The Clash's first original song to directly combine rock with reggae.
