"The Only Living Boy in New York" is a song written by Paul Simon. The first lyric references when Art Garfunkel went to Mexico to act in the film Catch-22. Figure 8 was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, Sonora Studios in Los Angeles, Capitol Studios in Hollywood and Abbey Road Studios in London. It was originally going to be called Place Pigalle, after the square in Paris. Regarding the album's title, Smith said in a May 11, 2000, article in Boston Herald: "I liked the idea of a self-contained, endless pursuit of perfection. But I have a problem with perfection. I don't think perfection is very artful. But there's something I liked about the image of a skater going in this endless twisted circle that doesn't have any real endpoint. So the object is not to stop or arrive anywhere; it's just to make this thing as beautiful as they can."

The 1976 song is noted for the sound of a doorbell, chiming the first eight notes from the Big Ben tune, before the rhythm begins. Paul McCartney "shouted out" to several of his relatives and friends in this song: his aunt ("Auntie Gin") and brother ("Brother Michael"), the Everly Brothers ("Phil and Don"), Keith Moon ("Uncle Ernie") and his famous former bandmate ("Brother John"). His reference to "Sister Suzie" was a reference to Linda, who once recorded a song under the name "Suzie And The Red Stripes."

This is Jane's Addiction cover of the classic Velvet Underground 1970 song. -- Lou Reed wrote, "'Rock and Roll' is about me. If I hadn't heard rock and roll on the radio, I would have had no idea there was life on this planet. Which would have been devastating - to think that everything, everywhere was like it was where I come from. That would have been profoundly discouraging. Movies didn't do it for me. TV didn't do it for me. It was the radio that did it."

Really does mean a lot to have our music on KEXP! We're back with a new one - CHANCER - and wanted to send it over for you to check out. It's a head-banging, attitude fuelled, rock powerhouse, with inspiration coming from the current economically scarred climate we’re faced with. I've attached a 1-page about the track giving more insight into the song."

Hey John. I stumbled on your Getting Airplay piece written for KEXP today, and just wanted to reach out and say thanks. NOTE: www.kexp.org I and two friends are part of a small indie band from Melbourne, Australia and are currently in the process of promoting our upcoming single. It's honestly this part of the entire release process that I find the most difficult and often the most disheartening. It often feels like you really have to sell yourself, and at times it can feel so disconnected from the pureness of the songwriting itself. It's obviously an essential part of the process though. And this isn't to say that people owe us, or anyone, the act of checking out music, and furthermore, liking it. But still, it can just suck sometimes. I read your article right in the midst of trying to find a few more people to contact. It was really timely for the headspace I was in. It was so refreshing to just hear someone say (and I'm paraphrasing here), 'it's going to be hard, there's a good chance you won't get seen or heard. Now keep going'. I'm also super appreciative of all the great tips you put in your piece in order to give oneself the best chance to get seen, along with pointing us to some additional resources that might be of use. Unfortunately, this whole process has at times felt like some people want to keep the door closed on new music, rather than embracing it. Your piece reminded me that that's not the case, and to keep working. I (we) love making music and are going to continue to do so. There's nothing else I want to do more. Your piece made me reflect on that even more so. Thank you. I know there's a good chance you won't see this email. And that's cool, that's all part of it! But on the off chance you do, I wish you all the best. If we happen to be the next *insert iconic artist name here* one day, I sincerely hope we get to say hi in person and shout you a drink. Until then, stay safe and all the best. Mitch. peakpark.bandcamp.com

The Walkmen, whose last shows were in 2013, have announced they're getting back together to play a couple hometown NYC shows at Webster Hall on April 26 & 27. Singer Hamilton Leithauser says: "Back in 2013, an unnamed Walkmen band member (Peter Bauer) announced to the Washington Post that we were going on an 'extreme hiatus.' I assumed that meant there would be a lot of monster energy drinks and maybe that red-headed snowboarder guy would be hanging around a lot…but none of that actually happened. Instead, in the ensuing years we’ve all worked on a ton of different projects in a ton of different places. Recently, someone sent us a clip of us playing at Irving Plaza from 2003, and it just looked very exciting. So, we’ve decided we’d like to play together again... See you soon." www.brooklynvegan.com
