'Pikul' is the debut album from Silversun Pickups, released in 2005. The album includes 16 untitled tracks after "...All the Go Inbetweens", all of which are about 44 seconds long each, concealing a hidden track at the end ("Sci-Fi Lullaby"). The album name comes from the nickname of a friend of the band who died, and to whom the album is dedicated. The name is commonly pronounced "Pickle", but the correct pronunciation is "pie-kull". --- Check out the last session with Silversun Pickups live in the KEXP studio in 2019. youtu.be

Released in 2005, 'Illinois' is Sufjan Steven's fifth studio album. The album is filled with songs celebrating this state of Illinois. This was Steven's second album based on a U.S. state, the first being his 2003 album 'Michigan'. Both were part of his ambitious "50 States" project which he has since acknowledged as a joke. bit.ly

Sharon says the song “is about managing depression and anxiety in the midst of isolation. Coping with recurring fears throughout adulthood, acknowledging that flaws, fears and triggers can’t be overcome, they are a constant part of one’s identity to learn to be at peace with.”

First Aid Kit says of the new single, Out of My Head, "We wrote this song last year together with songwriter and producer Björn Yttling. It was the first time we wrote for First Aid Kit with someone else and it was very inspiring. The song was written in the spur of the moment, almost like a stream of consciousness. It's about feeling stuck inside your own thoughts and desperately wanting to escape." bit.ly --- Here is First Aid Kit performing in the KEXP studios back in 2014: bit.ly

Justin writes: Hey John – Glad you’re back, and better that you set the example of taking care of yourself. 2005 is a momentous year for me, as it’s when my buddy Eric, who just directed the Weird Al biopic, introduced me to KEXP. I have so many songs that just locked me in for the next 17 years. Couldn’t be happier to finally get to celebrate this year…any chance you could play Doves - Black and White Town?

Frontman Tim Booth wrote the lyrics of “Beautiful Beaches” in response to climate change migration and the increasingly regular Californian fires that eventually forced him to move his family from Topanga Canyon to Costa Rica. “We love how this song is so uplifting, focusing on new beginnings,” says Booth. “I like the idea that many might not know the backstory and hear it as a post-Covid holiday song! Praying that the lyrics don’t turn out prophetic.” -- James performed "Beautiful Beaches" live on television this past summer: www.youtube.com

From the new Death Cab for Cutie album! “‘Foxglove’ is by far the most personal song on the record,” lead vocalist and guitarist Ben Gibbard said in a statement. “While I was writing it, I thought I was merely the narrator. But the longer I sat with it, I realized I was both the protagonist AND the narrator.” - bit.ly --- We hosted Ben GIbbard - Live in the KEXP Studio in July! _- youtu.be

Thank you for continuing all the Low love today in celebration of Mimi’s life and talent. I cried for about an hour on Sunday morning when I read the news. This is why I love KEXP…you’re salve for the soul! I’ll never forget the show at the Charles Theatre in the late 90s. I stumbled upon Mimi doing her hair and makeup at the bathroom sink, but I was too nervous to talk to her! They played that night in one of the movie theaters with a single white candle burning down in real time on the screen behind them. It was pretty perfect. Thankfully, I managed to share a few words with her several years later after a show. I’m still heartbroken. Thank you 🖤 — Erin
