Andrew Vowles, who was the main songwriter of Teardrop, sent an early demo of the song to Madonna, as he initially wanted her to record the vocals for the song, as the band had previously worked with her on their 1995 reworking of the song "I Want You". However, bandmates Robert Del Naja and Grantley Marshall wanted Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins to record the vocals, feeling her ethereal style suited the feel of the piece. Although Madonna was very keen to record the vocals, the two-to-one vote ruled in Fraser's favor.

Interpol will be playing The Paramount in Seattle along with Spoon on September 16th then head for two nights in Portland the 17th & 18th! According to Interpol's Daniel Kessler, the album's opening track, "Untitled" was written specifically to open their live shows. He said, "'Untitled' was a piece of music that was cultivated to open shows, well before we had any designs to make a record. It was a way to introduce the band live. And then by virtue of having performed it so many times, it became clear that this was our theme music to announce the band, and it felt appropriate to include it as such on our first album." - bit.ly interpol.bandcamp.com

Jude Lilley of the band shared: "This song was a milestone for the band as it was the first track we wrote entirely as a five piece, in the practice room, from scratch. It exemplifies a turning point for us, allowing us to run with our ideas together as a unit.” robmoro.ie

Talking about the song, the group's guitarist Martin Macnamara said: "Fever Dream" was written during the hottest days of summer and is about a kind of existential aimlessness that is at its best and worst during that time of the year. [..] Musically it walks a narrow line between that sense of hope and despair but emphasizes the former by nodding towards a baggy, swirling Northern sound." bit.ly

Karen O described their latest single: "'Burning' is a song about that feeling, smoke signals for the soul. Begging to cool it down, just doing it the best we know how. Nick and I nodded to Frankie Valli’s 'Beggin',' with the line, 'Oooh, lay your red hand on me, baby.' We’ve cut a rug to many a soulful ’60s bangers in our day, it was in our DNA by the time we wrote 'Burning.'" -- Watch the great video for this song: www.youtube.com -- The band's fifth studio album, their first since 2013's "Mosquito," is scheduled for release on September 30th.

Dear DJ, I woke up this morning and I had the chorus of "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" in my head. Apparently, it was released as a single this month 35 years ago from the Actually album of Pet Shop Boys. Any chance you could squeeze in either that track or any other from them this morning? Thanks! Aaron in Sacramento -- "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" marked Pet Shop Boys' first major collaboration with another recording artist (Dusty Springfield). The song was originally written and demoed around Christmas 1984. It was originally intended for use on Please (1986), but the problem was to decide who’d sing the other half of the duet. Various contemporary singers were suggested to them, but none of them seemed suitable for the song. Eventually their manager’s assistant suggested Dusty Springfield, whose album Dusty in Memphis (1969) was often acknowledged by Neil Tennant as his favourite LP.

Good morning kind people, I have a request. Yesterday my 92 year old step father died. He was an integral part of my childhood and early adulthood until my mother died and he remarried and moved on, over 25 years ago. We reconnected a few years ago and have shared apologies and heartfelt memories. It's a weird kind of loss. Chuck had a CD player in his study but not many cds. On a break from college, I found Bruce Springsteen's Tunnel of Love and proceeded to play the sh*t out of it because it was far better than the CATS soundtrack. If you have the space, I'd love to hear Tunnel of Love. Thanks for all you do! Judy in Seattle

Brian Eno produced this great album. --- When asked, why Manchester’s often overlooked lyrical heroes James has survived all of these years, lead singer and lyricist Tim Booth responds with two words—and his name is Brian Eno. Booth explained his reasoning when he said, “When you’ve got Brian Eno you’re not going to give up. Everywhere I went, Michael Stipe would say ‘How did you get to work with Brian Eno, I’ve been trying to work with him for years’. Flea would say ‘How did you get to work with Brian Eno for five albums?’ We had that. Brian, God bless him, says we were his favorite band. We had an amazing time with him. He’s definitely the fifth Beatle. And we miss him!”

The soundtrack of our corner in the multiverse. The track finds the Los Angeles trio (guitarist and “singing person Greg Katz, bassist and “other singing person” Amanda Tannen, and drummer Mark “Echo” Edwards) up to their usual tricks, setting Katz’s wry speak-singing to chipper pop-rock, both of which belie the song’s despair. Katz reels off his usual one-liners and nonsequiturs like “Fritos isn’t free” and “Seal Team 6 is here saging everything,” insisting that “Everything is fine,” despite plentiful evidence to the contrary in the form of an ever-rising dumpster fire—a disaster that won’t stop snowballing.: bit.ly cheekface.bandcamp.com

The title of the track came from an experience the Johns had when they found a substantial number of Ng's listed in a phone book. Linnell: "I think I was collecting possible song ideas and, for some reason, I ended up looking in the phone book, and there were about four pages of this name that contains no vowels, Ng. I was fascinated because it's a name I didn't know about before, and it was filling up a large chunk of the Manhattan white pages. I called up some of the numbers kind of experimentally to find out how it was pronounced, and I got the phone machine of a Dr. Ng and I was kind of relieved. The message said, 'Dr. Ng is not in,' and I had my material."

"Thou Shalt Always Kill" started life as a Scroobius Pip spoken-word composition, one he would perform and use as a piece of improvisation depending on current events or things happening on that night. "I'd use it at spoken word gigs because it was an easy one to adapt," said Pip in an extensive interview with the London Real podcast in 2014. "So if someone's overrun hugely, or been really condescending or anything like that, you can add "thou shalt not be a condescending prick"... you could just adapt bits, but put it into an already solidly structured piece. So I knew I already had the bits that would make the serious, social points, but I could add a lot of different areas if I needed to." www.songfacts.com

To LCD fans this multi-dimensional track is the clearest illustration of the group's identity. Murphy concurs: "To me, Losing My Edge was the perfect narrative song that could have ever come from me. Everything had a layer behind it. Was it making fun of other people? Sure. Was it making fun of myself for making fun of other people? Sure. But it was also about me kind of believing the things I was saying, and it was also about being a little embarrassed for being the kind of person who would believe those kinds of things." bit.ly LCD Soundsystem - "Losing My Edge" - Live at Madison Square Garden, 2014: youtu.be Check out tour info for LCD Soundsystem to catch them live: lcdsoundsystem.com
