Damon Albarn originally intended for this new album to be an orchestral piece inspired by the landscapes of Iceland, but during the Covid lockdown of 2020, he began writing narrative lyrics around the sounds.

Fiona Apple covered The Waterboys’ The Whole of the Moon for the series finale of Showtime’s The Affair. She asked Tony Berg to produce the record. Tony called in Matt Chamberlain, Patrick Warren, Ethan Gruska, Wendy Melvoin, and Phoebe Bridgers.
Fiona has worked often with Matt and Patrick and knew Ethan as the brother of her former bandmate, drummer, Barbara. This was the first time she had met Wendy and Phoebe and fell in love with both of them.
In a few hours they produced this beautiful rendition of a classic written by Mike Scott. After Mr. Scott (@ MickPuck) heard the performance he tweeted – “Prepare ye to receive goosebumps.”
Fiona practiced the first take in a small vocal closet but when it came time for the main event, Tony moved Fiona into the big room where she had a great expanse to sing into. I tagged along with my new camera which I could barely work because I had forgotten my glasses – couldn’t see the buttons, couldn’t focus. Despite the crappy camera work of a blind photographer, the magic that is Fiona shines through. I hope you enjoy this captivating version of a sublime song.
Drums – Matt Chamberlain
Chamberlin – Patrick Warren
Bass – Wendy Melvoin
Piano – Ethan Gruska
Background Vocals – Phoebe Bridgers
PJ Harvey and composer Tim Phillips joined forces for this Leonard Cohen. The collaboration was part of the series soundtrack for 'Bad Sisters.'
Sharon Horgan, executive producer of the show, sought out PJ Harvey specifically for the cover.
In a press release, Harvey said of the cover: “It was a very enjoyable day spent recording the version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Who by Fire’ for Bad Sisters. I had spoken to Sharon Horgan in advance of the recording session, so I understood why she felt the song’s lyric was so perfect for the series, but also understood what nuances of Leonard’s performance she most loved, and therefore what to try and recapture but in my own way."
Horgan revealed that Harvey had composed the theme tune and co-written its soundtrack.

Hi John and Owen,
It's that time of the year again - my son Liam here in Ottawa (a long time KEXP listener and amplifier) turns 11 tomorrow.
Over the years Liam has made many birthday requests - this year he's asked for either Swim Until You Can’t See Land by Frightened Rabbit..
If you could play one and give my little guy a shout out, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again for this and everything you do for our World Community! Very much appreciated.
Bill

First Aid Kit says of the new single, "We wrote this song last year together with songwriter and producer Björn Yttling. It was the first time we wrote for First Aid Kit with someone else and it was very inspiring. The song was written in the spur of the moment, almost like a stream of consciousness. It's about feeling stuck inside your own thoughts and desperately wanting to escape."

“I really do believe that love is learned over time,” explains Elizabeth Stokes in a statement. “In the course of knowing a person, you accumulate so much information: their favorite movies, how they take their tea, how to make them laugh, how that makes you feel. And when relationships between people change, or end, all that knowledge doesn’t just disappear. The phrase ‘Expert in a Dying Field’ had been floating around my head for a few years, I was glad to finally capture it when writing this tune.”

While recording the Disintegration album, Robert Smith created a strange restriction: He wouldn't speak during the sessions. To communicate, he passed notes to his bandmates, sometimes when they were in the middle of playing. He was trying to foster a kind of nonverbal communication.

“To all who have waited, our dear fans, thank you, our fever to tell has returned, and writing these songs came with its fair share of chills, tears, and euphoria when the pain lifts and truth is revealed,” Karen O said of the album. “Don’t have to tell you how much we’ve been going through in the last nine years since our last record, because you’ve been going through it too, and we love you and we see you, and we hope you feel the feels from the music we’ve made. No shying away from the feels, or backing down from what’s been gripping all of us these days.”

The label describes the latest Working Men's Club album as "Songs created in the shadow of terror and loss, but that crackle and pop with defiance, wrestled into being over one of the most extra-ordinary years in recent history. Ideas born of pandemic and isolation, but that demand sharing and then celebration. A statement of desperation, but also of intent. Of two-fingers anger, and two-footed celebration."

Iqbal explained about this second track off her debut album: “‘Something More’ is a song about a universal feeling that everyone shares, even if they try to hide or ignore it. It's about how true happiness and freedom only exist in the dimension of our fantasies, dreams, and private thoughts. The reality of our physical existence constantly leaves us dissatisfied, frustrated and yearning for ‘something more,’ even though we'll never find a way to remedy these feelings.": bit.ly
