This one was the first single from Doves' 2002 record "The Last Broadcast," but the band only released it for a day before deleting it. When asked about it in an interview, singer-songwriter Jez Williams stated, "Why does a band release a limited edition of 800 records? It was to do something different from the norm. Just wanted to try something different really. I can’t remember exactly whose idea it was. It might have been the manager’s, but we were kind of into it. A kind of statement, in a way. We liked the fact that you could only get a hold of a certain amount of this or a certain amount of that. Especially in this day and age of readily available bits of music, it’s kind of nice: a physical copy that’s precious to you because you managed to get to the shop that day and actually own that." bit.ly

The band says, "It’s a track about contrast, because life is contrast - pushing through, giving up, all at the same time. Wanting everything and then wanting nothing, then wanting everything again. It’s kind of reflective of where we are at the moment, trying to remember how to do this again...(t)rying to forget all the bad bits, just trying to get somewhere. And that’s where we are right now, trying to get somewhere."

Mike Scott began writing the songs for This Is the Sea in the spring of 1984. Scott recalls that in December 1984, "during The Waterboys' first American tour, he bought two huge hard-bound books... in which to assemble his new songs." For the following two months Scott worked on the songs in his apartment, writing the lyrics, and working on guitar and piano arrangements. Scott wrote between 35 and 40 songs, but felt that the nine songs that made it onto the album "were the ones that were intended to be there." New music from Bonny Light Horseman. “I think of ‘Summer Dream’ as the ultimate example of the ‘yes, and’ process we got into for this record,” Anaïs Mitchell said in a statement. “There was something we could all feel about this ‘ghost of a summer’s past,’ so the scene is true to each of us but somehow remains mysterious–a phantom. We could have sung that wordless outro for an hour, and in the rough track we basically did. We wanted it to ‘spill all over’ like a summer night.” www.stereogum.com

"Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" is the third studio album by English space rock band Spiritualized. The album's title is from the philosophical novel "Sophie's World" by Jostein Gaarder. The excerpt reads, "Only philosophers embark on this perilous expedition to the outermost reaches of language and existence. Some of them fall off, but others cling on desperately and yell at the people nestling deep in the snug softness, stuffing themselves with delicious food and drink. Steve Kilbey wrote Under the Milky Way with his then girlfriend, Swedish musician Karin Jansson. The couple, who share twin daughters, were visiting Kilbey’s mother on the New South Wales central coast. After dinner, Kilbey snuck outside to dodge his washing-up duties and enjoy a smoke. “Perhaps I looked up at the wonderful glittering heavens and was inspired – I don’t know,” he recounted years later. Kilbey drifted back indoors and began tinkering on the piano. Jansson sidled up and, before long, a melody had formed. “We agreed on the lyrics within three minutes,” he said.: bit.ly
