Steve Kilbey wrote Under the Milky Way with his then girlfriend, Swedish musician Karin Jansson. The couple, who share twin daughters, were visiting Kilbey’s mother on the New South Wales central coast. After dinner, Kilbey snuck outside to dodge his washing-up duties and enjoy a smoke.
“Perhaps I looked up at the wonderful glittering heavens and was inspired – I don’t know,” he recounted years later. Kilbey drifted back indoors and began tinkering on the piano. Jansson sidled up and, before long, a melody had formed. “We agreed on the lyrics within three minutes,” he said.: bit.ly
According to its creator Ian McCulloch, this song "about everything, from birth to death to eternity and God – whatever that is – and the eternal battle between fate and the human will." --- The chords of the song were based on David Bowie's "Space Oddity", played backwards.

"Love My Way" was the first Psychedelic Furs song to chart in America, where it reached #44 thanks in large part to exposure on MTV. To that point, most Americans only heard the band on college radio or at listening stations in independent record stores. After the song became a hit, the band moved to the States because they found the audience more receptive and they liked what New York had to offer.

Express is the second studio album by English alternative rock band Love and Rockets. It was released on 15 September 1986 on Beggars Banquet Records. Unlike most Clash songs, which were written by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, "The Guns Of Brixton" was written by bass player Paul Simonon, who decided to get in on the songwriting himself. Written as a protest about the economic situation for UK youth at the time, it became one of the band's best-known songs and a staple of their live set. Simonon takes lead vocal duties on the song, which is about gangsters in his hometown of Brixton in South London.

Phair described Whip-Smart as particularly difficult to make because at the time she didn't have many songs that weren't about the music industry, which displeased her manager.
