Happy birthday to American singer-songwriter, musician, and producer, Robert Zimmerman, AKA Bob Dylan, born on this day in 1941!
While attending college in Minneapolis, he became fascinated by Beat poetry and folksinger Woody Guthrie; he began performing in local coffeehouses, adopting the last name Dylan (after the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas).
Yo La Tengo (Spanish for "I have it") is an American indie rock band formed in Hoboken, New Jersey back in 1984.

Urban Hymns was conceived as a Richard Ashcroft solo album, as The Verve had broken up. As it moved forward, Ashcroft enlisted help from this former bandmates, and it ended up becoming a Verve album and re-forming the band.
Urban Hymns earned nearly unanimous critical praise upon its release, and went on to become the band's best-selling release and one of the biggest selling albums of the year.

Hatchie spoke to KEXP's Sound and Vision podcast about the themes of shame and self-acceptance on her latest record, Giving The World Away, and how she worked a day job during COVID to save up to tour so she could pay her band and crew. “I really wanted this record to be as big as possible on tour so I wanted to add extra members to the lineup and I wanted to have our own soundperson and have a lighting show so that meant that I had to make some personal sacrifices and had to go back to work part-time so I could balance that and budget for it so that I can save up and not have to pay myself on tour, whereas I have to pay a band,” Hatchie says.

Soho were a collective made up of core members guitarist/songwriter Tim London (real name Timothy Brinkhurst) and twin sisters, Jacqueline and Pauline Cuff. In 1987 the Cuff sisters resigned their jobs as psychiatric nurses to commit themselves fully to singing in the band.

You can’t get rid of it, and you know it’s bad, but you love it really, and it’s whatever, so you do it anyways."

Kitchens of Distinction, formed in London, England in 1986 by singer and bassist Patrick Fitzgerald, guitarist Julian Swales, and drummer Daniel Goodwin, they named themselves after an advertisement that caught Swales' eye.
"Shine On" was originally released in 1987, when the band was on Creation Records, but failed to reach the UK top 100. The band's subsequent singles peaked outside of the top 40 until, in early 1990, "Shine On" was re-recorded, this time produced by Tim Palmer, and re-released. The song peaked at #20 in the UK, #24 in Ireland, and #171 in Australia.
