The movie The Wall is a semi-autobiographical story about a young boy that loses his father in the war and is raised by his overly protective mother. The child grows up alone as an outsider that absolutely does not fit in. He feels trapped by his overly protective environment while being shunned by the men around him.

Cover of the Victoria Williams song that appeared on a benefit album for her after her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. She told NPR in 2017 that after it was released: "I was in Louisiana and I was down on this long road and lots of trees. I was just listening to it and just crying, crying out of joy."
Blanco has said this song details the need for compassion in the midst of feeling helpless. “‘Family Ties’ is the first song where I sonically found my voice and I mean that in a very literal way,” the 35-year-old California native said in a statement. “It’s the first song in my entire career where I am singing, I don’t rap. What would become Automatic for the People had its origins in the mixing sessions for R.E.M.'s previous album Out of Time, held at Prince's Paisley Park Studios in December 1990. There, demos for "Drive", "Try Not to Breathe" and "Nightswimming" were recorded.

This year marked the 50th "anniversary" of Bloody Sunday (also known as the Bogside Massacre). On January 30, 1972, British troops fired on unarmed protestors in Bogside, Derry, in Northern Ireland. Twenty-six people were shot and fourteen died, thirteen on that day. All were Catholic, and were largely marching against Britain’s policy of internment without trial. The unit responsible for this act was the 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment of the British Army, who were also implicated in the Ballymurphy Massacre in Belfast five months earlier in August 1971.

“We’d only met once but Scott’s passing eviscerated me. He was my age and very close with several dear friends of mine,” says Mangan, “Either he couldn't see how deeply he was loved by the world, or he didn’t feel worthy of it. How come he could bring joy to so many people but not to himself? I remember weeping as I poured cereal for my boys that morning. This song came very quickly in the days that followed.”

The tenth track on Big Red Machine’s second album How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last? was inspired by, and takes it’s name from the late Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison who was a friend of Dessner’s. In an interview with Secretly Store, Dessner suggested it was written around the kind of tear-jerking piano melody that fans would associate with The National.
"A Wave Across A Bay" was written in honor of late Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison. The track has been released with the blessing of his younger brother Grant, with Frank donating profits of a 7" single of the release to young people's mental health charity Tiny Changes.
"I still miss my friend Scott every day," says Frank. "His passing left such a huge hole in so many lives. I wrote this song in his honor and memory, it was hard to write and record, but I think it does the man some small justice.": bit.ly

Good Monday morning. My husband Knathan is struggling a bit and took the day off to head up to his hometown of Everson (just west of Bellingham) to drive and get out of the city (no small feat when you live in West Seattle).
His closest friend and bandmate, AC, died unexpectedly a couple months ago at 49- heart aneurysm. He said goodbye to his wife and four kids and went to work and never came home. Our families were tight before COVID. We did life together. So this has hit us all hard, but especially him. To lose your closest friend, creative partner and bandmate. It sucks. And just a few years prior he lost his other close friend and bandmate, Cooper, in the same band to cancer. It was swift and quick. Add to it, some significant other losses related to work and identity... it has been a season of loss this spring.
