Good morning and welcome to the Monday edition of the Morning Show with John! The movie The Wall is a semi-autobiographical story about a young boy that loses his father in the war and is raised by his overly protective mother. The child grows up alone as an outsider that absolutely does not fit in. He feels trapped by his overly protective environment while being shunned by the men around him.

Blanco has said this song details the need for compassion in the midst of feeling helpless. “‘Family Ties’ is the first song where I sonically found my voice and I mean that in a very literal way,” the 35-year-old California native said in a statement. “It’s the first song in my entire career where I am singing, I don’t rap. What would become Automatic for the People had its origins in the mixing sessions for R.E.M.'s previous album Out of Time, held at Prince's Paisley Park Studios in December 1990. There, demos for "Drive", "Try Not to Breathe" and "Nightswimming" were recorded.

By request for James in Neptune, NJ Van Etten wrote the final song on her new album, About This All Wrong, to remind her son of her love for him when she's out on the road. "I'll be here," she tells him, "not only when you feel long lost" — a reminder that our attention to each other, even when it is all we can offer, is a worthy gift.

Here is what the band had to say about "Everything is Simple": “At the beginning of something (a relationship, a project, a job, a new place) you have this very pure feeling toward it,” say Widowspeak about the song. “Everything feels less complicated because you’re oriented wholly toward that potential. It’s undefined, and that makes it easier to understand, because you can’t see the problems yet. As time goes on, you learn more, you experience more, and you see where the limitations exist: Not even necessarily ones imposed upon you, but where you draw your own lines. Maybe you can’t see what was holding you back until it’s in the past, and by then others’ perspectives contradict your own.” bit.ly widowspeak.bandcamp.com

It’s inspired by the Pin Drop Tour and the making of our album The Firewatcher’s Daughter." "I’d like to introduce part two of our series for our song, 'Wherever Is Your Heart.' We made this video In our hometown of Maple Valley in the freezing cold inside of a tunnel on a hiking trail where we spend a lot of time when we’re home! There was a huge wind storm that day and all of us lost power and decided to hike out with the guys at Mason Jar Music to shoot the song. Morby said about this song, "In “A Random Act Of Kindness” I set out to write a song where each line could be interpreted in two completely different ways. For example; when I sing the words “out of trust…” it could be heard as either I have lost my sense of trust in something or that I am committing an act with trust as my motive. It’s a song about the menacing nature of the sun rising during a dark time in one’s life only to further illuminate their pain and suffering — and how during these periods it is often the selfless acts of strangers that keeps a person going." kevinmorby.bandcamp.com

This year marked the 50th "anniversary" of Bloody Sunday (also known as the Bogside Massacre). On January 30, 1972, British troops fired on unarmed protestors in Bogside, Derry, in Northern Ireland. Twenty-six people were shot and fourteen died, thirteen on that day. All were Catholic, and were largely marching against Britain’s policy of internment without trial. The unit responsible for this act was the 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment of the British Army, who were also implicated in the Ballymurphy Massacre in Belfast five months earlier in August 1971. www.nytimes.com

This track is a direct response to Frightened Rabbit’s “The Woodpile.” “We’d only met once but Scott’s passing eviscerated me. He was my age and very close with several dear friends of mine,” says Mangan, “Either he couldn't see how deeply he was loved by the world, or he didn’t feel worthy of it. How come he could bring joy to so many people but not to himself? I remember weeping as I poured cereal for my boys that morning. This song came very quickly in the days that followed.” danmangan.bandcamp.com

The tenth track on Big Red Machine’s second album How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last? was inspired by, and takes it’s name from the late Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison who was a friend of Dessner’s. Good Monday morning. My husband Knathan is struggling a bit and took the day off to head up to his hometown of Everson (just west of Bellingham) to drive and get out of the city (no small feat when you live in West Seattle). His closest friend and bandmate, AC, died unexpectedly a couple months ago at 49- heart aneurysm. He said goodbye to his wife and four kids and went to work and never came home. Our families were tight before COVID. We did life together. So this has hit us all hard, but especially him. To lose your closest friend, creative partner and bandmate. It sucks. And just a few years prior he lost his other close friend and bandmate, Cooper, in the same band to cancer. It was swift and quick. Add to it, some significant other losses related to work and identity... it has been a season of loss this spring. -Jess == massive laser beams of unicorn love to you all from your morning show family, Jess and Knathan,

Beethoven called the Symphony No. 7 his “most excellent symphony,” and one music critic of the time reported, “this symphony is the richest melodically and the most pleasing and comprehensible of all Beethoven symphonies.” On the dissenting side, Carl Maria von Weber (1786–1826) heard the piece as evidence that its composer had lost his mind, and, Friedrich Wieck (1785–1873), a renowned piano teacher and Clara Schumann’s father, maintained that the music could only have been written by someone who was seriously intoxicated. www.britannica.com This has appeared in countless films and tv shows, including being perfect for Watchmen.
