Happy Friday!! John ... I LOVE the inevitable Friday lunchtime dance party that you build to, AND I'd love to hear Wolf Alice 'Last Man on Earth' ... such a great song! ❤️. Be well!! ☺️ Erica in Rhode Island

From KEXP's Armando...maybe the best human, ever: Dammit people. It's not fun to be making breakfast for the boys with a few tears in the ol eyes. My wife has been back home in Houston for the last two weeks with her dad because he had major surgery and isn't in the best health. I sent her a screen shot of the playlist your starting out with because I miss her with every fiber of me and those songs were foundational in the beginning of our story, only to get a reply from her that she's sitting in the car eatting a yogurt with a plastic spoon taking a "break" from sitting with our Dad at the hospital, streaming your show because it makes her feel like home. ❤️

Hi John & Owen! It's Court's birthday tomorrow! We're currently at the Hope Lodge in NYC as he is undergoing proton therapy for his esophageal cancer that has now metastasized to his brain. Is there any way you could give him a birthday shoutout, some encouragement, and some Quivers (You're Not Always on My Mind)? This song has become his anthem for positivity during his cancer treatments, and I think he'd love to hear it! No worries if you can't get to this! Thanks so much, Amy PS. Thank you SO much to Henry as well. Henry's introductions (with dead air) for the Friday song always cheers up Court immensely. We've also even gone out on many Fridays (and maybe other days) to get chocolate cake with chocolate sprinkles. (I say chocolate cake should be a treatment covered by insurance!)

Jeremy from Boston writes...Morning John, First time requester -- trying not to overthink it! Can you work in "Oh Yoko!" by John Lennon? I feel like that would get this Friday tumbling with the right amount of sweetness. I've been listening to KEXP since last December, and fell head over heels for your station during the Spring Drive (On the final day of the countdown, I was listening for probably 15 hours straight!) I felt so deeply seen and understood throughout the week, wrapped in a warm blanket of love by a music community I didn't know I was searching for. "You Are Not Alone" was proven to be not some commercial slogan to sell coffee mugs (though I did grab one of those), but an affirmative truth. Congrats to everyone at the station, and cheers to another 50.

"Hey ladies, where y'all going to?" "To the pool!" This call-and-response repeats throughout the entire two-and-a-half minutes over a funky, retro groove and killer saxophone line. It’s an incredibly fun and catchy song that will make you ache for the days of summer. And, it's yours, for free: kexp.org

For Chris in Everett -- It was The Cure's 8th studio album. The sound of the album was a shock to the band's American label Elektra Records. Smith recalled "they thought I was being 'wilfully obscure', which was an actual quote from the letter [Smith received from Elektra]. Ever since then I realized that record companies don't have a (bleeping) clue what The Cure does and what The Cure means."

Sam in Auburn writes: Lost my mom two weeks ago, going to Spokane tonight to take care of some final deets. She wasn't a huge music gal, but I remember the typical mellow 60's stuff during breakfast. Her name was Sue, she hated Johnny Cash because of that song 🤣 She NEVER would appreciate it, but would you play American Girl by Petty. She absolutely was one. xoxo.

For Stephen! -- From their only studio album. New Radicals broke up in 1999—just months after the release of their 1998 single “You Get What You Give," but reunited to deliver a one-time performance 22 years after at the Biden/Harris inauguration. The song is very important to Biden because his son, Beau Biden, who died of brain cancer in 2015, often played it. Singer-songwriter Gregg Alexander stated: "Performing the song again after such a long time is a huge honor because we all have deep respect for Beau's military service and such high hopes for the unity and normalcy Joe and Kamala will bring our country again in this time of crisis." - bit.ly
