Once Twice Melody is the 8th studio album by Beach House. It is a double album, featuring 18 songs presented in 4 chapters. Across these songs, many types of style and song structures can be heard. Songs without drums, songs centered around acoustic guitar, mostly electronic songs with no guitar, wandering and repetitive melodies, songs built around the string sections. In addition to new sounds, many of the drum machines, organs, keyboards and tones that listeners may associate with previous Beach House records remain present throughout many of the compositions. beachhouse.bandcamp.com

Released on this day in 2005 (what a day that was for music!). Pitchfork called it "high-concept emo embossed with glittery snow angels, packing more synthy bombast than a Tangerine Dream/Mineral mash-up" but gave it 8.6 and Best New Music: pitchfork.com

Said Annie Lennox of this track: "The video is basically a little cameo story. I would say 'Love Is A Stranger' is a song about love objects. The concept of love in relationships is very often a person projecting what they want onto another person. We are all in love with the idea of love but what we want is not always good for us. We might get obsessed with something very dangerous. I wanted to put these ideas into a pop song." Music Video: youtu.be

New single from the upcoming album, 'PAINLESS.' “It’s a song about recognizing what it feels like to be pushed down but wanting to resist,” Yanya says about “midnight sun,” adding, “I really like the imagery of ‘midnight sun’ as a lyric as it insinuates a light guiding you through darkness. The wings carry their own symbolism — freedom, lightness, flight, fantasy. If I could pick what people saw and heard it would be seeing the beauty of confrontation and the necessity of rebellion.” bit.ly Nilüfer Yanya - "midnight sun" (Official Visualizer): youtu.be 'PAINLESS' is out March 4. From the 'Singles' soundtrack released on Epic, along with tracks by Screaming Trees and Alice in Chains. According to Billy Corgan, the success of "Drown" was stymied by the label behind the soundtrack due to their pushing of Alice in Chains' hit. "That's classic record company. You would think, 'Hey, you've got this soundtrack. You've got two songs working radio, you're going to sell more soundtracks.' They killed our single to make sure that it wouldn’t hurt the Alice in Chains thing." - bit.ly

www.youtube.com -- RIP, Don Wilson, co-founder and rhythm guitarist for Tacoma’s band the Ventures, has died at 88. According to The Tacoma News Tribune, Wilson passed away from natural causes at his home in Tacoma. Don Wilson and Bob Bogle first met in 1958, when Bogle was looking to buy a car from a used car dealership in Seattle owned by Wilson's father. Finding a common interest in guitars, the two bought two used guitars in a pawn shop for about $10 each.Initially calling themselves the Versatones, the duo played small clubs, beer bars, and private parties throughout the Pacific Northwest. When they went to register the band name, they found that it was already taken. Disappointed, they cast about for an appropriate name. Wilson's mother suggested the name "The Ventures", upon which they eventually agreed in 1959. The band had their first big hit with “Walk, Don’t Run,” a cover of a Johnny Smith track that was popularized by Chet Atkins, in th early 60’s, pioneering the surf guitar sound while their rendition of the Hawaii Five-O theme reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969. In the 1960s and early 1970s, 38 of the band's albums charted in the US, ranking them as the 6th best album chart performer during the 1960s, and the band had 14 singles in the Billboard Hot 100. With over 100 million records sold, the Ventures are the best-selling instrumental band of all time. In 2008, the Ventures were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Wilson continued to play live with the Ventures throughout the years until his retirement in 2015.
