The band's first effort for Capitol Records was an album which was recorded before Come Down called The Black Album, which was rejected by Capitol for, according to frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor, containing "no hit songs". Seattle folk-pop band Ivan & Alyosha have recorded a new version of "Coming Alive," the opening track from last year's self-titled album, and this version features newly-added guest vocals by Dashboard Confessional's Chris Carrabba. "We look up to Chris a ton and have been Dashboard fans for a long time," the band tells Brooklyn Vegan. "He’s got such a unique and recognizable vocal delivery, not to mention how powerful his voice is. L.A. punk four-piece The Regrettes have just released a new single, “Monday,” that the band’s Lydia Night tells the NME “was inspired by misery, dread and all the fun emotions of the past couple of years,” adding. “It was written at one of the peaks of my anxiety, which I was only diagnosed with recently. After years of feeling a certain way but not identifying with any sort of mental illness, this song was me finding the validation for what I was going through. This Dublin 5-piece was originally the project of brothers Daniel and Killian O’Kelly. The pair met bassist / vocalist Emma Hanlon and guitarist Peadar Kearney in college. Daniel said to DIY Magazine, “But we needed a drummer and then I bumped into Gary [Wickham]. He saw me at a Wilco concert and came up and was like, ‘Oh, I’m your new drummer now apparently.’ The whole [band] thing was very convenient because we were all friends first - well, except Gary. We pretend to be his friend. It’s just hard to find a drummer, y’know?”

Brisbane, Australia's Hatchie (aka Harriet Pilbeam) is covering the Jennifer Paige 1998 hit "Crush." Secretly Canadian has been dropping standalone singles celebrating the label's 25th anniversary, which provides housing and other services to families experiencing homelessness in Secretly Canadian’s hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. Speaking about the cover, Hatchie explains: “I’d been thinking of covering “Crush” for a few years before this opportunity arose. I always thought the lyrics were much more moody than the bright chorus they were paired with, so I wanted to shift the focus. I was super keen to be involved with SC25 when asked.
