Good morning! Today is Shoegaze Morning! My Bloody Valentine's 1991 album Loveless celebrates its 30th anniversary, and to celebrate, the Morning Show is playing three hours of nothing but the genre it helped to spawn: shoegaze.
The Glider EP was MBV's first release on Sire records in the US. "Soon" was the lead single - which also appeared on Loveless with a different mix.

"Ladder' by Berlin-based Norwegian singer-songwriter and guitarist Anna Lena Bruland (EERA) is a recent KEXP Song of the Day, selected by Cheryl Waters.
“Speak is a search for a balance in life, acknowledging myself, and being proud of who I am,” she said. “To become braver and more confident, and stop questioning so much. Accept and move on instead. My debut was a little bit timid, like, am I doing this right? This album is more who I am.”

A.R. Kane have been characterized by critics as among the most innovative and underrated groups of their era, and recognized as an influence on styles such as shoegaze, trip hop, and post-rock. The Guardian has called their work "some of the 80s' most extraordinary music" and noted their influence on subsequent artists such as My Bloody Valentine.
Bands such as Seefeel, Slowdive, Long Fin Killie, Dubstar, the Veldt and Apollo Heights have cited A.R. Kane as an influence.

Brisbane, Australia's Hatchie (aka Harriet Pilbeam) is covering the Jennifer Paige 1998 hit "Crush."
Secretly Canadian has been dropping standalone singles celebrating the label's 25th anniversary, which provides housing and other services to families experiencing homelessness in Secretly Canadian’s hometown of Bloomington, Indiana.
Speaking about the cover, Hatchie explains: “I’d been thinking of covering “Crush” for a few years before this opportunity arose. I always thought the lyrics were much more moody than the bright chorus they were paired with, so I wanted to shift the focus. I was super keen to be involved with SC25 when asked. It’s cool to be amongst some great artists doing the same.”

Medicine are perhaps best known for their cameo appearance in The Crow, in which they performed "Time Baby II", although the soundtrack album included a different version titled "Time Baby III" which features guest vocals from the Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser.
Recorded in upstate New York, in a converted church called Dreamland with producer/engineer Chris Coady (who has worked with TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blonde Redhead, and a bunch of others) 'Teen Dream' is the third album from the Baltimore-based duo Beach House, and their Sub Pop debut.

'Heyday' marked the first occasion when group compositions dominated one of the band's releases. Steve Kilbey has said: "The demo situation was getting to us - me writing the songs on my eight-track and bringing them along to the band. It sounded too stiff. We'd reached this new energy level on stage which by far superseded anything we'd ever recorded, so we knew the only way to get sounding like that (on record) was for the whole band to write together."

The Boo Radleys have announced their first album since 1998, and their first without lead songwriter and guitarist Martin Carr. Keep On With Falling is out March 11, 2022, via their own label, Boostr. Earlier this year, the now three-piece released “A Full Syringe and Memories of You,” which will appear on the album.

Curve formed in London in 1990 and split in 2005. The band consisted of Toni Halliday (vocals, occasionally guitar) and Dean Garcia (bass, guitar, drums, programming). Halliday also wrote the lyrics of their songs and they both contributed to songwriting. An important collaborator was producer Alan Moulder, who helped them to shape their blend of heavy beats and densely layered guitar tracks set against Halliday's vocals.
Garcia, half Hawaiian and half Irish, had played in some small bands when he auditioned for Eurythmics. The English-born Halliday met Dave Stewart of Eurythmics after he had read a rock magazine interview with her in which she praised his pre-Eurythmics band, The Tourists. Halliday and Garcia were introduced to each other by Stewart. Garcia had played bass guitar as part of Eurythmics' live band in 1983–84 and on two of their studio albums, while Halliday was signed to Stewart's Anxious Records label as a solo artist. The pair formed an ill-fated group named State of Play in the mid-1980s before parting ways, embarking on a no less ill-fated solo career (Halliday) and further stints as a backing musician (Garcia), and then reuniting for a more long-term partnership in Curve. bit.ly

Joe Tangari said in Pitchfork that the band had a tougher image than other shoegazers -- "drawing their name and much of their lyrical imagery from American car culture and films. If their counterparts were about capturing the look of a vapor trail in their guitar tones, Swervedriver's Adam Franklin and Jimmy Hartridge were more about simulating the rocket ride that produced the trail in the first place. Found on the London band's second album Strange Free World. Noted producer Hugh Jones, who worked with Echo & the Bunnymen on their 1981 album Heaven Up Here, helped KOD to sound more at ease in the studio while recording this album.

"Nothing Natural" was released as a single and was the opening track to the Black Spring EP, both released in October 1991. The song was also featured on Lush's debut full-length studio album, Spooky from 1992.

In 2016, Pitchfork ranked Citrus as the 37th best shoegaze album of all time.
Chapterhouse took the unusual step of rehearsing and gigging for well over a year before recording their first demo tape.
Andy Bell said of the song:
I remember writing the riff in a hotel room on a very early Ride tour. We were in a bed and breakfast type scenario, and I was sitting on a bed with an acoustic to get that four-chord pattern which is really very simple. It’s played on two 12-strings. People seem to be quite interested with the guitar sound on this record, if there are fades or effects, but there’s not; it’s just two 12-strings. It’s just one of those magical songs. That’s the one that everyone talks about on the album in my experience. These songs are the easiest to write and the ones that you don’t really think about at the time. It came out so easily and it has that effortless feel to it. I guess it is the one I’m most proud of from that era.

"Shine On" was originally released in 1987, when the band was on Creation Records, but failed to reach the UK top 100. The band's subsequent singles peaked outside of the top 40 until, in early 1990, "Shine On" was re-recorded, this time produced by Tim Palmer, and re-released. The song peaked at #20 in the UK, #24 in Ireland, and #171 in Australia.
In 2020 Loop confirmed their first new album since 1990 but there seems to be no further updates since the announcement:
